Walks I bought a harness for my puppy from Walmart. It has a mesh front and padded leg straps. I have to fight with him to put it on, he bites at it, and when I finally get it on he goes after it and will not walk, just tries to bite it. Should I try a different harness??? Thanks Barry |
You just need to teach him a harness is not a bad thing. It's going to take a lot of practice and patience but stay calm while putting the harness on and try not to get frustrated or angry. Give him yummy treats while this process of putting the harness on is going on. He should soon associate it with being a good thing. This is all part of being a puppy, some pups don't like leashes/etc. |
Another Idea... ...is to give him/her a treat each time you put on the harness. In time, he will understand and not fight with you. Now my Yorkie lowers down for me to put it on, in down dog like yoga. Anything you do for him to train, he/she needs treats in order for him/her to learn. Don't over do it with the treats or he/she won't eat the food, as I have found out. Good Luck. |

I would add that just leave it on the floor for the little one to check it out and explore and if they go to look at it feed the intrest. JL |
Not sure which harness you have, he may very well get used to it in time. I know that Hot Rod hates 2 of the harness' that I have for him--padded one that the collar goes over his head and the other his step in one. He doesn't like it going over his head and the straps he tends to bite at them. He much prefers a vest type of harness. He's never bothered it from day one. I got his from Walmart. |

I put the harness on Boo every time we go out. I let him know we are going out and he gets very excited and starts spinning around. Then I pick him up and set him on the counter to put the harness on. After a while he associated putting the harness on with going outside (he LOVES going outside). Now I set him on the counter and just have to say "paw" and he lifts his paw so I can put his leg through the harness. |
