Litterbox - Won't use the new box My yorkie is 9 mon. old. I had tranin her to use the litterbox from the very first day I got her. She learn to use it right away without much problem, but currently I am having problem getting her to use the new litterbox (The old one is getting a little too small for her). Any suggestions ?? |
You just have to be consistent. Use the same training you did the first time and make sure the box is in the same spot. I am now putting Sydney's wee wee pads inside a litter box and she doesn't like it. Before her pads were on the floor. Lots of praising going on in my house lol. Good luck and let us know how it goes. |
Same advice here, stay consistent! They notice every change and right now the size is probably throwing her off! When we first moved Wrigley's box a different direction, she wouldn't use it and the same when we moved it to another location! Our dogs don't like change and I think they just have to get used to and accept something new, they have to get comfortable with it! |
thanks for the suggestion. I had put the new box next to the old one. Let's hope she will learn to like it. I guess I will first teach her to get in there without fear. |
That's what I did with Sydney's box. She was wee wee pad trained, and just this weekend I decided to try to get her to use a medium sized litter box with washable pads. I took the pad out so she could walk inside of it and sniff. I also gave her a treat for just getting in. It is like starting over, though. Hopefully it goes better the second time around. Good luck. |
Put the old bax by the new box both set up. Let her just get used to it being around she been taught to pee in one box you are now asking her to break your rules and pee in something else. then once she gets use to seeing it put hte old in the new for a fe days the remove the old one. JL |
I'm still in the process of training my Sophie to use a litterbox.. (its the bane of my existence lol =P) anyways I would recommend using housebreaking spray (you can get it at Wal-Mart for about $3) cuz it makes them VERY interested in where ever you spray it. And to use the clicker training method to associate that box with good things and eliminating in that good box with even better things. Example: Sophie loves mottzerella cheese (thats the only treat she has ever had besides her food) but when she goes in the good box give her like Peanut Butter or Liver Treats or even a tiny lick of Nutri-Cal. Something thats like the holy grail for them haha. It helps them learn allot faster I've noticed. Anways Good Luck! It seems like you have had more success with the training then I, So maybe my adivce isnt too great but I just thought I would try and help if I could =D |
