Obedience training My husband & I adopted our baby girl, Allie, from a rescue organization in Alabama in August, 2009. At that time, she was 10 months old. She was rescued from a puppy mill, so she has had no formal training. She does love to play fetch & she has learned to bring the ball back & lay it down. She has also come a long way in her potty training. She is scared to death of every noise & everybody (including my husband), so I would like to enroll her in some professional training classes. Can anyone suggest which is best - clicker training or positive reinforcement? |
They are one in the same or should be. I suggest trying to see if anyone at Truly dog freindly organization is in your area. Truly Dog Friendly About Truly Dog Friendly They are not only postive but very gentle and be a good choice for a dog with fear concerns. JL |
I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement. It sounds like Allie also needs socializing which is very import to any breed. when I first brought my girls home and they got familiar with their common surrounding I brough them to as many places (pet friendly) as I could to get them used to unfamiliar faces, noises, pets, even transportaion like riding in someone elses car etc. My first rescue need much reinforcement in her own environtment and I did that with making repeated common household noises while we played. This may be a good start for you & Allie being she is a shlter rescue unless you feel she won't freak out with a training class. Best of luck to your family and Allie! |
Hi all:animal36 I haven't been on in a long time but l have a brother and sister Yorkie X Cairn and a JR. Previously l had GSDs and they were very easy to train, but l do have a lot of trouble with my small babies. Food does motivate them and as that is part of the tools of clicker training l would suggest that with your little girl too. :animal-pa |
