Odd question - how many times a day for potties?
 
The previous owner said that she let Lolli outside only about 2 times a day (before and after work). My mom seems to think that 4 to 6 times is more necessary.

For me, once I get another job I won't be able to walk her that many times a day and I think that she will learn through routine when she has to potty and then she will have to be retrained with a new schedule when that happens.

So if anyone has a general rule of thumb, could you let me know? I'm not sure what is a normal amount of times to take the dog out, if 2 or 3 times is ok or if 5 or 6 is more normal.

I dont know how many times mine go out Im home all day so its quite a bit. 2 times a day isnt enough and Id be surprised if she didnt have accidents going out that small amount of times

I am not sure. She told me she was potty trained and very good about going outside and not inside.

I know people who work a full time job wouldn't get a chance to really walk their dog more than like 3 times a day. Morning, after work and before bed. I can't imagine a dog absolutely 'needing' to go outside 5 times or more a day, but maybe I am wrong. It's not that I don't want to, I don't mind. But I just can't get how it would work with all the people who have a job and their dogs are at home.

No I imagine the most that most dogs get walked is once in the morning and once in the evening. But it still seems you would need to let them out about once an hr or so when your home untill bedtime

I work full time and I take Buddy out at 6am and 8am, before I leave to
be sure he's comfortable, then 5:30pm and 9:30 pm. He's fine all night.
When I'm home on the weekends I make sure he goes out every 5hrs.
It averages out to 4x daily. I can't imagine only 2 x a day.
Dosen't seem fair to the pup. I know I go more than that myself
in one day. It would be painfull to hold it I would think.

My housebroken ones go whenever they want with doggy doors. I have a 6 yr old rehomed female that will not go through the doggy doors by herself. I have to place her directly in front of the door, then she'll go out. She goes @ 6am, 11 am 3 pm. 7 pm and 10 pm. The two puppies go @ 6 am, 8 am, 11 am, 3 pm, 5 pm 7 pm, 9-10 pm. I don't think two times a day is enough.
