Unhappy at night in crate We're putting our pup (9 weeks) in a crate in our bedroom at night, and she is quite unhappy. We've had her a week, and would like to get her used to it because we don't want her sleeping in bed with us. I hope she gets used to it! |
you can get a playpen from petco and place her bed and water there; and after a while it will be like her own room; my dog loves her catle :) i leave her there when i am at work too; roaming around got dangerous for her when she chewed up the whole house and ended up in the ER; so the vet told me to confine her in a place; so i got this metal playpen from petco that fits her bed, water bowl and pee pad. good luck |
Putting her in a crate overnight is perfectly fine, but just make sure you are getting up to let her do her "business" throughout the night. If she whines, open the crate door, pick her up and take her right outside (or to the pee pad if you are indoor training). Don't let her feet touch the ground until she is at the spot you want her to do her business. Once she's done, put her right back in the crate and go back to sleep. Don't talk to her while she's in the crate or when she whines. She will eventually get used to it. Our little furbaby got used to his crate overnight pretty quickly and started sleeping through the night after only a week or so. We are grateful for that, as getting up every time he whined started to get old pretty quickly :) |
Hi, I'm new here. Ive have my Prince for about 4 days now. I am having this problem with him whinning about being in the crate. I'd usually get up and lie down with him for a few mins and put him back. this is helpful. Thanks. |
I have a 10 week old female Yorkie and during the day when I can't watch her she is in an ex-pen with her pee pad bed and some toys food water. At night by my bed I have a crate that has her bed and food water. I cover her crate the sides and top with a blanket and I warm her bed before putting her in with a snuggle buddy or I throw her blanket in the dryer. I put her in and say good night. She has not whined except for the first night and that only lasted 3 min. She wakes me up twice to go in her ex-pen to pee and I always put her right to bed after she pees. I really think you have to start a routine and she or he will feel secure. I also have a lil heater on low by her bed bc we live in CT. I hope this helps you a little. Also try putting their favorite stuffed toy with them in bed! good luck~Joyce |

We have a britney that we had to sleep besides the create for a few night when we got her home. She had never been in a create and it just took a few night and she was fine. We also, had the create where she could see us in bed, that seemed to help. You could also try to place a blanket that you have used in the create to make them feel saver. It all take might take some time, good luck! |
