Need help w/slow feed bowls. 1 Attachment(s) I bought these in hopes of keeping Princess & Turbo from devouring their food like they're in a race: Attachment 296479 Well, they're scared of it! I know they were hungry, but they wouldn't go near it! LMAO! Most of the time, they don't even chew on their kibble, they just swallow it & I'm thinking it makes their tummy work harder to digest it. I feed them Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison & they're regular bites. It's a pretty good size. I feed them twice a day. They're at a healthy weight & I do give them treats throughout the day, so they're not starving, but they eat like they are! Lol I waited about 10-15mins & felt sorry for them & transfered the food to their regular bowl. Any suggestions on how I can get them to eat off the slow feed bowl? Momo had no problems. What other bowls or methods do you suggest? Thank You!:D |
I had to change Jada to a slow feed bowl and I got the break fast bowl. She took right to it so I am not sure how you will get them to try it. Maybe if you put a little of their kibble in it and take it out one piece at a time and hand feed them until they get used to a new bowl? Jada is such a pig she will eat out of anything but Bogie is a different story. I got him a bigger bowl about a month after we got him and the first time I put his food in it he looked at it like, that's not my bowl and you can't make me eat out of it!! LOL I had to gradually change him over to eating out of it. I would sit in the floor and give him a piece at a time out of it. It took about 3 days and he finally would eat out of it. These little guys can be so stubborn can't they:p |
Haha, funny Bogey, that's how Princess & Turbo looked at it, but wouldn't go near it! Thanks Michelle. I'll try that. I've left it out so they can get used to it. They actually avoid that immediate surrounding area, kekeekeke! If it doesn't work, I can use it for 'no-no' parts of the house.:D |
ROFLMAO...hehehe....Cosmo has that bowl as he is a super chow hound but he was not afraid of his.he would eat off an alligator's back to get his food if he had too:eek:. Hmm..first try putting a few of their fav treats in it and see how that goes. It does work - it slows them down by only a few seconds but hey it's something. |
LMAO! Cosmo has that in common w/Momo! Thanks for the tip about the treats, will try that.;) |
No fail method Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the inside of the bowl, then put the kibble on top. There's more than one way to outsmart a stubborn Yorkie!:p |
Hummmm, my suggestion would be to send the fancy slow feed bowl back and go in your back yard and find a nice round stone that will fit nicely in the old food bowl. Wash and dry the stone. When you feed, simply place the kibble in the bowl and put the stone on top -- they will have to scootch the stone around with their nose to get to the kibble underneath. We have had excellent success using this method with our Boxer and with our horses. Good Luck! |
Thank You for the tips ladies. I'll def try all of them & if it doesn't work, have to go elsewhere to find some rocks...no rocks in our tiny backyard.:D Meanwhile, I've been feeding them half & the other half...they still gulp it down! |
