Belly Band Alternatives I used belly bands on sabrael, he pees constantly around the house, we even leave the door open for him to go out so belly bands were a real gift to find out exsited so thank you guys for telling me about them... we used material and he soaked those and it takes awhile for them to go through the laundry, so we took puppy pads folded em in 3 and put them around his waist absorbent side against him of course with a pin worked perfectly but puppy pads are so expensive when he needs to be changed so often, paper towling doesnt sound too safe or absorbent for him what do you guys think? :animal36 |
I use maxi pads or panty liners. But the band prevents my boys from going. The time they go is when it has been over night. Do you have it on him tightly--I meant not so tight they cant move, but not lose. I was told yesterday by manolosmom to try adult diapers. She said they are much cheaper and you can cut them into squares for the band. Might try that, I am going to. :) |
I use a belly band on my Bryan at night because at night he would get off the bed and pee on my carpet...so I brought a belly band from Petco and I put ladies maxi pads in the band...what I've found is that he hates the belly band and once I put it on he will walk back and forth..rubbing his body against the wall to get it off, he then gets fustrated and will lay down and go to sleep and stay there til morning, then in the morning I take him out of the room, take off the band and place him on the wee wee pad to go potty....so I use the same pad over and over and when he does go in it (which is usually on the weekends because we try to sleep a little later)it has extra absorbancy and the belly band doesn't get wet...Try it! |
I thought bellybands were for dogs marking, not really for holding all their pee, unless a dog is incontinent. Is your dog housebroken or is he marking? When we take Joey to a friend's house who has a dog, he will be tempted to mark, so we use a bellyband with a feminine pad placed inside. Some people say that they use the thicker pads meant for urine, poise pads, I think they are called. It's important to take the pads off when you take your dog outside too pee. They should not be used in place of housebreaking your dog though. |
I have 2 males, they are my stud dogs and they mark all the time, I hated to wash belly bands all the time, so at home when they are in the house I put diapers on them, like belly bands, they aren't pretty but they work and they can't get them off. |
So all boy dogs will mark in the house?? Sorry never had a male dog, only females...Im confused now.... |

I have a little boy and a cut tube sock and a maxi pad works great. I just cut the sock at the ribs at the top. They work and cheap to do.. lol Best thing no velcro sticking to his hair. |

Yes, females DO mark! |
I have 2 males who wear belly bands. I use the poise pads moderate and cut them in half for during the day and change as needed. Their belly bands almost never get wet but they go outside frequently to potty. At night I use a whole pad but often it is dry in the morning and I can use it for days before it needs changed |
Teddy is pad trained and he goes outside. He has never marked at my house but when we would go to my moms house, she has a male dog also, he would try to mark on her things so then I bought a belly band! Teddy got neutered about a month ago and hasn't marked anywhere. I still like to be on the safe side and put on his belly band when we got into someone's house though. However I do not put it on at my moms house and he does not try to mark there anymore so he would probably be fine anywhere. Like many of you I also cut the maxi pads into smaller pieces and line his belly band with that! |
