Keeping him away from baby toys.... I am expecting a baby at the end of October. Everytime he gets into the baby's room he runs right for the toy basket and starts taking the toys out thinking they are his. I know he will end up ripping them apart like he does his own toys. How can we train him to stay away from the baby's things? |
How old is he? Have you tought him the drop it and leave it commands? The only way you can successfully train him to leave the toys alone is if you first teach him those two commands. Once he knows those commands you can then say to him "drop it" or "leave it" when he has the babys toys. If he listens to you make sure he is given a treat with either food or you playing with him and one of his toys as reward. It is relatively easy to teach the dropt it and leave it commands but it takes patience so don't get frustrated if he doesn't get it right away. |
i dont know if you have little kids? the dog might get a little jealous i know my sisters dog, cat was jealous at first... the best thing is too include them in everything too help the dog know he's still love. i'm a new pet owner myself but maybe try giving him one of his own toys when the babys room is open and it might take his mind off the baby toys.. and the commands sound like a good idea agree with bridym.... i need too trie thoughs as well on my coby he's touchy touchy will things they are not his |
That would be a tough one cause these little guys love toys so much. I really dont have an answer but hope someone here can help you out. Oh and congrats on the new baby:-) |
