Bully Sticks? ok so I tried a bully stick on my yorkie. She went absolutely nuts she was so excited she pee'd all over the kitchen. I usually do not give her bones since she becomes aggressive with them and I am afraid she will choke. Well when she had the bully stick in her mouth she growled the whole time (with her tail wagging) when I tried to get it from her she growled and ran it took 3 of us to get it (I know don't laugh) Any help with her aggressiveness? I would love for her to have a bully stick but am afraid of the way she acts and of her choking cause she's afraid I am going to take it away. |
If she's THAT aggressive with it, I would opt to not give it to her honestly. But if you want to work on her with it, I think you need to let her know that that bully stick is YOURS, not hers. She can't growl/bite the hand that feeds her. Try holding the bully stick and letting her chew on it that way, so she knows you mean her no harm. You need to claim your space. Also, tail wagging does not always = happy, keep that in mind. |
My husband brings home 4 bully sticks every Fri. along with their dog food we get at a speciality store. They know when we get home from the grocery store its snack time. (keeps them out of the way. lol!!) What we do is just let them chew on them until they get tired. Pretty soon they are going to lay them down and go get a drink, because they get tired chewing that long. I just save the rest for the next day. I personally like them to have b.sticks, because I think they are good for their teeth and better than raw hide. |

Omg! My boy is the same way! He gets so agressive and excited with everything that goes to his mouth. I did give him a bone once, it was a huge mistake:(, he played with it, we laughed, it was funny watching him, but then i decided take it away after, and he went nuts, growled at me with agression. I got so scared, picked him up, and guess what? yes, hi did swallowed it!!!! It was a crazy night watching him all the time, making sure he is ok. He is now all fine and healthy, thanks God, but it was a big lesson that we learned. He still agressive with other things, like socks, picks them up and run away grolwling:( |
My Jewels growls when she has a toy or a chewie too but it is a playful growl. She doesnt want chachi to get it |
I sit Sky on my lap and hold a chew for her to chew on (mostly because its the only way I can get her to sit still on my lap for any length of time to brush her), this seems to work well - and its your chew because you are holding it and she can only have it while she's sitting with you. (I dont know yours might try to steal it and run off if she's being aggressive with them?) |
Bailey loves, loves, loves her bully sticks - and she lets met take them from her. She doesn't want to give 'em up but she does. I have to take them away otherwise she'll eat the whole thing - and eat it fast! When I take it - I always say "good dog, good girl" and get excited because she did a good thing. You could even take it one step farther and exchange the stick for a treat - at least in the beginning. I believe you'll need to practice with your little one and let him know that you're the boss; you're the giver of all that is good. You give and you take away on your terms - that is the law. Oh, and I assume it took three of you because the lil' one ran around the house? If that's the case - then only give the stick in a confined area when he can't run and hide - until trained. Good luck. |
