potty pads stinking up the house I buy the potty pads from Wal-mart. He uses them great, but after going pee on the 2 times they stink up the house. I have tried to take him outside but with winter coming I dont want to stand out there for 15-20 mins. Can someone recommend a pad that has better odor control? |
I use washable pee pads. There is a member here who sells them. We have a manufacturer in our area that makes them and they sell at a flea market about 20 miles away, so I just pick them up if i am near there on the weekends. |
My girls are trained to go inside on pads and outside in the yard. The pads I use are called 'OUT' brand...they are the extra thick training pads, twice the absorbancy and twice the odor control and they are also leak proof. I bought one of the trays that holds the pad in place, not the thin one but the heavy duty one...it really holds the pad in place well and keeps anything from touching the floor in case they would tear the pad when scratching their feet. I have had as many as 7 using the pads, 4 adults and 3 puppies, and I have never had an odor issue with this brand. There is also a brand from Petsmart...I can't recall the name but they are in a yellow bag...they are also very good. Are you using the scented training pads? If so, they are treated with something that attracts your puppy to the pad to go potty and that could be part of the problem. P.S. For a long time I was a proponant of using the washable pads, and I do have some, but all they did was train my girls to pee on my rugs around the house. Once the learn to potty on something soft like the washable pads they will seek that out when they need to go...the disposable ones are actually much better. |
I have up to 6 dogs using 2 pads... I spray them with the same enzyme that I would use to clean up their messes if they miss. It is called "Liqui-Bac". I could never figure out what to wash the re-usable ones with so I stuck with disposables! |
I used the Wal-Mart pads, but switched to Hartz and like them so much better. They are thicker. Mine are trained to outside during the day, but we put the pads down at night. If your dogs urine is that strong that it smells the house up, I would be finding out what's wrong. The urine shouldn't be that strong. |
It used to be like this with Lilly too... I just couldn't stand it. I have an out of this world sense of smell and it would just gag me. I just ended up training her to go outside. |
I have a super sense of smell, too. I use washables and change them every time Lady pees. :) |
I use washable potty pads. I also make them to sell. I think they do hold the odor down better than the paper ones. |
Hence why I don't use potty pads! ;) lol. |
I use these ones.. I get them at petsmart they are like 20 bucks for 50 if I remember...I am not sure. But I love them!! http://image01.shopzilla-images.com/...&uid=757211259 |
I use Nature's Miracle disposable "quick trainers" and am very happy with them. They are supposed to smell like grass, but they don't smell like much of anything to me, even after they've been used. You can also try training your yorkie to pee/poop on command so you aren't waiting for 15 minutes in the cold. If she gets trained and knows she'll get a treat, she should go quickly, esp. if you only give her a few minutes to work her magic before you go back inside. |
I use the Penn-Plax Dry Tech they r Hospital - Grade Super Absorbent , they have Baking Soda added to them to eliminate odors. I brought my at Meijer, but if I have to buy any at a different store , I look for baking soda in them for odors. bark@ulater !!!! manina, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyorksasha:aimeeyork |
I usually buy a big box at a time, and around the house, i put multiple ones, and if it starts to stink, i just put another one down, and sometimes, i just run some water on it, then spray it with fabreeze, and it smells nice, and looks pretty nice again! |
I have used the ones at WalMart as well (Out brand Ultra thick ones) but I prefer the Hartz Training Academy ones. They are much thicker and I just think they are a MUCH better quality. PLUS, you can get 50 of them for $10 at WalGreens (and probably a few other places)... they are the best. |
I tried some washable ones I got off Ebay. After a few washes I thought they stunk no matter what I washed them in. another thing is when I use the washable ones they would pee on anything in the floor. With 3 kids clothes hit the floor all the time and they would go straight and pee on them. So I am back to disposable. I bought Little Stinker brand last time. Alot of time I just go to Sams and get a big box of underpads and use them. |
