Toe nibbling while going down stairs...... Zoe has a bad habit. Whenever I am coming down the stairs, she nibbles at my toes and nearly trips me. I haven't noticed her doing this with the boys or my husband, just me. She also darts out the front door any chance she can to get to ME. She's looking for me and most of the time I am out there and we can scoop her up but we live on a busy corner and it scares me TO DEATH! We are working on this bad habit and she will listen to me but she is FAST! any ideas? My boys are 5 and 6 and remember most of the time but they are kids and forget. |
Spray your toes with bitter apple before you go down the stairs. After a couple tastes of that she will quit doing it |
How old is she? My dog did this when he was really young, but I would say "No bite" really stern and move him away and eventually he stopped. Teach her to "wait" at the door until you give an ok. Heres a video that helped me. |
Every so often my Razael, who by the way is very playful anyway, will do the "purr-growl" and nibble at my toes when I go downstairs. I think it's when she hasn't had enough attention and play. I simply pick her up (not saying a work or even looking at her) and put her down at the bottom and walk off. These episodes must be working because she rarely does it now. Mine were totally trained not to go out the door, but Azrael and Razael go totally deaf if the door is opened and they hear the UPS truck anywhere. One day a package was left by the UPS delivery man and when I opened the door, he was just pulling away and Azrael gave chase and I nearly had heart failure. She would not listen to me till he was almost a block away, then she turned into the left lane to head back and another truck that had turned right into our street nearly hit her. After that, I just put an expen around the inside door. Better safe than sorry. Some dogs won't break their training at all, but some do. You just never know. |
She does listen if i tell her. Now I'm thinking about it, I think I need to train my kids and not her! She will listen if they just pay attention and let HER know they know she's there. She's sneaky. I will pick her up most of the time or I shake my foot a little to keep her from doing it and say NO. I'll keep working on that one. |
Uni does this all the time. I agree with Yorkiedaze, it's when she been ignored for too long (in HER opinion LOL) Sometimes I allow it, sometimes I tell her no and she stops. But I think it's just them being playful. I'm just afraid I'm gonna step on her tail one of these days with my big feet. When she's got 2 steps left she jumps all the way to the ground with a spin and a bark. It's so cute. |
