Crying Yorkie Please help!! My 5 month old boy York (Dash) has begun crying and yelping all night. I don't understand it. We brought him home at 10wks and we've never had this problem. The last week it has gotten progressively worse until the culmination last night where I got about 3 hours of sleep, total. Please help!! |
Where does he sleep at night? Is he in your bed, in a crate or gated up? |

He's always slept in the kitchen by himself. He has a old pillow of mine he confiscated his third day home that he won't give up.:) So I let him sleep on that with my pillowcase so he can smell me. He's never slept in the bed with me. He has crate trauma from the breeders. The few times I did put him in there- he's cried, yelped, thrown himself against the crate, and wet himself. |

Why dont you just let him sleep in bed with you? |
It's dangerous for him to sleep in the bed with me. My bed is about 3ft off the ground and he's a little guy. If he falls it can be bad. Also I don't want him to get used to that. Hubby would not be impressed. LOL!! Thanks for the suggestions. I'm wondering about a hot water bottle to simulate body heat... |
It sounds to me like he's got a little separation anxiety which he's going to be vulnerable to since as you had said he had crate trauma before Try the hot water bottle put in some articles of your clothing maybe even a small radio with him |

You saying that brings to mind the fact that I spent the night away from home a week ago. It was one night and it didnt occur to me til just now that it could have had an adverse affect on him. I've never been away from him for more than a work day. Could this be the problem? I mean it was a week ago and I've been home ever since. I just find it odd that he's never done this before up until now. And he's 5months old. I've had him since he was 9wks. |
Yorkies love sleeping with their human. Have books that say that. Have heard of people putting a hook in the center of their head board and leashing their furbaby on for the night. Don't know if that is approved or not. I have 3 Yorkies that sleep with us. All sleep in the center and don't fall out. Also have a ramp for them to get off if they want. |
Put him in the same room with u, if u don't want him to sleep in your bed. I think he needs to see u. bark@ulater!!!!! manina, miley:aimeeyork, max:aimeeyork, sasha:aimeeyo rk |
I'm going to move his bed into my room tonight and pray I can sleep. Maybe just being in the room with use will help. Just nervous about letting him roam the bedroom at night in the dark. |
I have a 7lb and a 3.7 lb yorkie and they both sleep on our bed. It is kind of high and the big one does come up and down but the baby will whine if he wants down. But, they just want to be close to us and sleep all night. |

We slept last night!! And as it turns out he'd rather curl up on a sweater he pulled from the chaise than sleep in his bed. He's a happy baby today and I even got to sleep in late after taking him out and feeding him this morning. Miracles do happen. He's not friends with the crate at all. He can see out and we can see in the one we brought but he still freaks out when he is even near it. I don't think the breeder was strict about not letting people touch or more than likely bang on the crates when he was there. I can't being myself to force him in there. It's horrible- his reaction. We're still working on the potty thing. Hubby was against pee pads so we've set up a schedule and he pretty much has no accidents. One or two but that generally we were running late type of thing. I would really love it if he would bark to let me know when he has to go now though. Because there are times I take him out and he sits next to me instead of going. lol. He's a funny boy. |
