I need a dog whisperer!!! Help! Something is wrong with me... I believe. My Abby is 5 1/2 months old. A darling little dog with the sweetest personality. We became the bestest buddies right way. She blended into our family perfectly. I am married with a daughter who is eight. We have two cats. Abby had been wonderful. Housebreaking was going well, Barking was minimal. Now she has a problem and it's me. She nips and bites me continuously. I am going out of my head. I can not walk across the floor without a Yorkie pulling on my pant leg. She only does this to me. Not to my husband or my daughter. Just me!! Why???? I'm so frustrated. She has a million chew toys but none as good as me.Any thoughts? |

First, you are right... to react... don't let her away with it! I lite poke, and a growl reaction... a low rumbled "NO!" (not an actual gr-r!!) But do it every time... you are just her favorite play thing, so resume your role as "da boss"!! Good luck! |

Bailey went through this - and did it only to me. I'm also the one that she bonded to. I was irriatated -but realized that she was just trying to play. She did it when I was going down the stairs, too. Yikes! So, to break it - I would stop, look down at her and "quit!". That helped for the moment, but she would do it again just a few minutes later. Then, she out grew it. Good luck! |
Nipping My Yorkies are "not" trained. If they are doing something dangerous or totally unacceptable I say NOT in a firm voice. They understand and only saying it once usually takes care of the problem. Quit would have been better, I think, but I did not know about YT when I started. |
I wonder if Mommy carries her around a lot? |
My first Yorkie did this as a puppy when I came into the kitchen wearing jeans and socks. He knew it meant I wasn't going to work and he was going to have play time. He was just excited, I thought it was funny, and my jeans wound up with little wear marks from those little teeth.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I think you all might be on to something... I do carry her around a lot and yes, we bonded first, and I have spoiled the darling little dog. But I love her!! :) |
I think it's the age too. Skippy did it, Gabby didn't though. He outgrew it. She just loves you! |

There's a few things that are going on Yes she's at the age where this kind of stuff happens and she might be teething But she isn't biting everyone ... at least that's what you said She's biting You So that needs to stop and the way you do this is stop becoming the moving target and you must show her that you are not only hugs and kisses but that you mean business when she's bad If she goes to nip ... you stop and in a strong voice say ..... NO BITE! and then you walk away If she comes after you again ... you do the same again She cannot put her mouth on you ... make sure of it |
