Potty help needed.....asap Our precious Ella is a little over 4 months old. We got her in June. We immediately started potty training where we took her outside every 30 minutes to go potty and praised/treated every time she went. I teach school so I was home this summer almost all the time. At night or when we're gone during the day, Ella is in a playpen with her open crate and a pee pad. She comes out of her crate and uses her pee pad. This summer was great. She only had one or two accidents in the last couple of weeks of summer. Since I've gone back to school/work, she is in her play pen from about 9 until 4. We get her out immediately when we get home. The problem is this: she has quit pottying outside and will only potty inside. HELP......am I doing something wrong? Why was she going so well and now has regressed so much? I really need some good advice. Thanks for any advice or help that anyone can give. Sincerely, A Distressed Yorkie mommy:confused: |
Just a guess, but I think it could have something to do with the dramatic change in schedule. Dogs like routine. I know at that young age she can't hold it 9-4, but she could be confused now because she's not outside as much and she's going where she is know comfortable, which is in the house. Is there any one that could come during lunch and let her out and that way you could get rid of the pee pad and have no pottying inside at all? |
I have my Yorkie trained for both inside and out, therefore, I am not upset when he goes in the house on papers. I just clean it up. No big deal. He usually goes outside, but sometime he has to go when I am busy getting a meal, taking a shower, or at night, so it is good to have him trained for both. Also, your baby is still quite young. It may take sometime for her to become completely trained. |
Hi, I wanted to ask Zekie's mom a question. I am trying to train my puppy Stella (who is now 4 months old) to be trained inside and outside. She is doing really great with her outside training. She rarely has accidents when I am home since I take her outside every few hours and keep up on it. The problem is the inside training. She used to go on pee pads during the day while I was at work and even if I missed taking her outside due do being in the shower or something. The problem now is that she stopped using the pee pads altogether. When I am at work she is kept in the kitchen with a pee pad and some toys and room to play. Instead of going on the pee pad like she used to, she goes anywhere but....poop and pee everywhere. Then she steps in it and I have to give her a bath most days. It's weird but the pee pads are clean when I get home...she doesnt even play with them. Is there any way to get her back to going on the pee pads? should I focus on that when I am home instead of taking her outside? eventually I want her to be able to hold it until I get home from work but in the meantime I know she cant hold it longer than a few hours. How did you train for both? I am getting frustrated with the amount of clean I have to do every afternoon after work. Thanks for any suggestions! :) |
Here is a suggestion, my puppy is outside trained and has been for quite a while, with the upcomming winter I decided to purchase this since it is similar to outside... We have very very cold winters here and often get up to 18 inches of snow... I thought this would be a great alternitive since it at least " looks" like the grass outside?? It hasnt come yet Im hoping it will be better then pee pads since she has no idea what they are anymore.. while I was training her outside the trainer told me pick one or the other, she is only a puppy and you dont want to confuse her so she hasnt seen a pee pad in forever.. I went to my friends house she has a Chi and Laci went right over and peed on it !! https://www.buybackyardbuddy.com/?MID=598178 |
Hi Jeanm! I am actually looking into things like that. someone suggested I try to litterbox train my puppy but I am afraid to have the smell in my apartment which isnt that big. But since this looks like grass she may want to go on that more than the pee pads. she seems to have NO interest in pee pads anymore since she is basically outside trained. I will do more research on this tonight. Let me know when you get yours and how it works! thanks for the suggestion! BTW: winters are cold here also and I dread having to take her outside. If this works I may do this permenantly as the clean up seems pretty easy. I can probably just dump it outside or down the drain I think. I neglected to try this before b/c the one I was looking into said it was machine washable...and I am very leary about putting grass (even fake) in my w/d. haha. |
Jack has the same issue. Jack was also doing great while I was on summer vacation. Once I began to teach again, he started eliminating all over the house. While he still uses his pee pad while he's in the x-pen, he would rather go potty somewhere else if he's allowed out. It's rather frustrating to think I have to start all over again. Any suggestions for the OP? |
I have purchased a doggy turf....that is what I am calling it :) I have only had my Max for 5 days. I have a photo studio and he goes to work with me and he is doing really good, but have had a few accidents. I am excited to see how the indoor grass will work! He loves my grass in the yard. He is 8 weeks old. OH>>>> I am new to Yorkie Talk and I am so excited to have found the site!!! |
