hiding poo My friend has a problem with her yorkie pooing in the house and then dragging it under the bed. My reccomendtations were to 1)put the puppy on a regular feeding schedule instead of free feeding 2.)block under the bed 3)anytime you catch puppy in act of pooing in the house yell no and bring outside. does anyone else have any ideas why she would be doing this puppy is about 7 months old and not spayed yet. |
DRAGGING the poo???? How????? In his mouth?? Or does he kick it under the bed? |
I think your suggestions are good. A couple guesses on the behavior: * He's knows he will get in trouble for pooping in the house, so he wants to hide it. * He sees it as a toy, and is stashing it, the way he might with a bone. A lot of dogs play with their poop. If he is not supposed to go in the house, then she needs to get serious about potty training. If he learns he should ALWAYS poop outside, problem solved. |
While yelling no will stop action it also gets him a great deal of wonderful attention and I sure the fuss made over him dragging and hiding the poop is amazling. What wonderful reinforcing behaviour these humans give. Dogs do not care if it bad or good attention just that they are getting noticed. ignore it and only pay attention when he is doing his poops outside. Get his access to the house greatly limited so that he is only pooping in areas as in on paper or pee pads or outside. I even do the tether training so that he is out and about thehouse ony with him on the end of a leash. Take him out and go with him and fuss at him when he is outside an pooping where you want him too. Pass out the treats as soon as the poop hits the grounds outside. Dogs do not have the level of thinking that is needed to hide poop to stay out of trouble. More like he is hiding a rescourse that the humans keep taking as in a squiral hiding nuts or a coyotoe stashing a kill. JL |
YM is right Yorkies for some reason or other are prone to eat poop I know it's disgusting and it can cause some serious stomach problems so it is best stopped as soon as possible Do not give him access to places he usually hides it and make sure you clean it immediately after he places it somewhere |
