Victoria Stillwell's 3 second greet I was watching It's Me or the Dog this past Saturday and missed most of the part where she tells the owner about the "3 second greet". She was referring to the owner's dog meeting a new dog on a walk, etc. Did anyone see this episode, and if so what does the 3 seconds mean? Thanks |

I never let mine meet a strange dog on a walk as I am sure mine will blow and I even when I am walking the other dog kids I do not trust the other dog will not blow but I intrested to see what it is. JL |
She used the 3 second greet because if her two dogs were around another dog for longer than that they would gang up on the poor dog. The 3 seconds would be long enough to satisfy their curiousity, but not long enough to attack...that's what I took out of it...that's right, I spent my Saturday night watching It's Me or the Dog and not afraid to admit it! hahaha I was home too Saturday and watched all the training shows. OK - also the 3 second greet was supposed to supress the barking that happened when her dog greeted other dogs while on a walk. She also did something cool that if they do bark while on the walk you immediately switch directions and that will stop the barking when meeting other dogs. |

As for the turning around thing what it does is increases the distance between the trigger and the dog so barking behaviour is not reinforced and I tend to do that more then get close. So what I am gleening.. learning is she doing the standard resoicalization stuff used in postive. Cool name for it. JL |
