He hates it when I go to the bathroom! O.k. Can't find anything online about THIS particular odd behavior. My dog can't stand me going to the bathroom. If I shut him out, he sniffs the bottom of the door untill I "let go with the flow", then starts clawing at the door frantically. If the clawing stops, I'm in REAL trouble because he's doing something else to get my attention (like eating my cell phone). My only chance is to keep an eye on him whenever I go, so I have to let him in. It's kinda hard to go then, because he stares at me and often growls as I potty. lol. Of course, it's not funny...a growling dog is a bad sign. It's getting more and more bizarre. It started where he would make odd noises and come watch me whenever I went. Then one day he started staring at me, growling, pawing near my feet, and making other odd noises. It progressed. If I went into the bathroom, he would do ANYTHING to ge ahold of a personal object of mine and destroy it. He would leave the remains of whatever he got in plain sight for me to find when I came out. I am pretty damn sure that this is intentional attempts to "punish me" for going to the bathroom. (In his house, I assume). Here are some typical casualties: My headphones. my Cell phone 2 of my hats 4 pairs of my sunglasses. Random equipment from my desk. the dvd remote my handbag paper work that I have recently handled Bits of the furniture where I have recently sat. He almost NEVER goes after anything of Jenny's, nor does he seem to care when she has to go to the bathroom. Now the behavior has gotten worse: Last night, after MONTHS of accident free 100% potty trained goodness, he responded to my taking a leak, by taking a leak just outside the bathroom door. At this point it's a serious problem. I think this sounds like a dominance thing (marking where I have marked, resenting my peeing in HIS house, etc...), but I dare not take dominance training any farther as he's been acting skittish in public. I don't want to totally anhialate his self confidence along with his bad behavior. Anyone here know if your Yorkie hates it when somone in your home goes to the bathroom? |
He's probably wondering why you aren't going on the puppy pads like he had to. Reagan used to whine if I closed the door but that was just when I was the only one at home and she was then alone. I do know what you mean about it being hard to go with something staring at you though. Sorry I really can't give any advice though hopefully someone else will be able to. |
LOL, I'm sorry you are having trouble but that post is too funny :p |
the staring thing is kinda 'creepy' huh? my fiance often comments that toby 'loves me sooooo much' because he will wake from a dead sleep if i get up to go somewhere else (and toby is on the other side of the room  ).... and when i undress to get in shower/work clothes/pjs... whatever he will sit there and STARE at me. I am fortunate though, he used to be so glued to me that he would try and jump in the SHOWER with me (im sure he still probably would, but hes not allowed in the bathroom anymore  ) . . you have a unique problem with the pee thing though, i have never heard of that one. Is he afraid of the toilet? maybe he doesnt like the sound of teh toilet flushing afterwords? |
I would crate him before I go to the bathroom. He will not be able to be in the attack mode in the crate and it will keep him from being distructive. This is not a punishment just something that will keep him out of trouble. :) |
hahahaha...Coco never got mad but ALWAYS had to come in with me. Now she wants to sit on my lap when I am in the bathroom (probably too much info) and if she doesn't sit on my lap, she snaps my undies and runs away. |
Toki doesn't mind at all. IT's funny because he knows when I flush the toilet he knows that im done and he will go to my bed and wait for me there. hehe |

I just need to replace his crate with one that will contain him. Sadly, he killed his last crate (a soft crate) by ripping a hole through it. He really, really, hates the crate. |
Only problem with the crate is...what if ya hafta go reaaaalll bad???? I can just see you doing the pee pee dance while trying to contain a crate-combative doggie.LOL Sorry I'm not much help. My dogs like to do in the Bathroom with me too, but they sit on the rug and wait patiently for me to finish and wash hands, then trot out with me. |
