I'm so proud of my boy! I've been posting on my blog about getting Thor to stay calm around skateboards, but nobody reads it, ha ha. Normally I just post there anyway, but I'm so excited I wanted other people to know! First, I've been walking Thor on Heel for the past week or so, which he has been doing beautifully. In fact, he was so focused on me yesterday that a skateboard AND a scooter went by on the street and he didn't even notice! Second, I've been going to a local skate place with Thor every week or so to help him learn to tolerate them. I usually spend about 15 minutes there with some jerky, so he has to really focus and fight to get the jerky out of my hand. He's been getting gradually better, but we started at "psychotic rage", and sometimes it's hard to get pumped about the journey from that to "still barking and lunging, but slightly less snarly." TODAY though, he was really, really good! He barked a few times, but mostly he just sat and watched them, and I gave him some jerky every time someone did a trick (extra loud noise), or skated extra close. I can see the light at the tunnel! Let's hear it for my brave little guy! |
YEA!! Keep it up. He'll get there! Alison.;) |
Congratulations Thor, pretty soon you'll pay no attention to skateboards and skooters. |
Hard work pays off. Keep it up. Doing Great. JL |
YAY Thor!!! :) |
:bravo: Way to go Thor. I can feel your excitement in knowing he's getting it. LOL I go through the samething with Buddy only it's with larger dog's. When I catch him right before he get's into that RedZone and correct it when a large dog is coming and he allows it to pass without going off the wall I feel like CEASER. LOL Keep up the good work Thor. We know you can do it. |
Way to go Thor! |
Thanks, everyone! It was a really big step. Before, he pretty much could not look at a boarder without freaking out. I was feeding him jerky non-stop. Yesterday, he could look at them from a sitting position, but even when he stood up, his tail stayed level with his back, so he looked more watchful (maybe even curious???) than threatened. Of course he started off today by peeing on a rug in my apartment for the first time in months. It's a long climb up the mountain, grasshopper. |

Best explain two fold thing... My girl under stress will pee to calm herself as it smells of her and she will poop too. So when she been peeing inthe house of late the panic button is set to high in me as we are loooking athree things. UTI, valve failure and to high stress. You just never know. So could be stress. Second thing is after a stressor is removed or a stress level drops my girl will go pee...again it is a relaxer. She toss a minor freak out and after it is over she will pee. Please do not ask me in the volumes of reading I have tracked that down. Least not know dealing with a mild concussion. Just a thought to watch what happens before the peeing. Is it after a well handled high stress day? Look for a possible pattern. JL |
Hm, it was out of the ordinary, but I think he just overloaded on the water. We usually wake up around 9 am together. He was up at six, and at 8 am, I woke up enough to see that he was sitting next to me (rather than curled up), and shaking. I put him on the floor, and he raced to my bedroom, and then stood there for a minute, looking guilty. I got up to see what was wrong, and saw this enormous wet spot. I couldn't believe that much water came out of him. I think he was trying to hold it to get to his pad in the living room and didn't make it. I'm not sure why he didn't go the night before, but I did notice him drinking a lot of water, and thought maybe the jerky was salty. I feel lucky that he waits for me to wake up, but in this case I wish he'd bark at me to let him off the bed. Oh well, nothing half a bottle of Nature's Miracle can't fix. |
:good job: Way to go Thor! Good boy!!! Maybe you can show Abby how to walk nice on leash.:) I wish Abby would walk good on leash. She starts out pulling and then when she stops that, she walks so fast that she gets tired out. Just can't get her to walk "nice":( Keep up the good "walks", Thor! |
