Sitting and Down - - confused! My 12 week Morkie does AWSOME with Come, Sit and for the most part down. However, when I now tell her to sit she does and then goes right into a down. I have to admit it is precious out she slides her back legs out to go down. But for such a small dog, do you think it matters that I need her to sit in the correct position? I mean she technically is when she lies down............ |
So cute! Jonah spreads his back legs out when he lays down too...lol! I don't reward him unless he does what I've asked. I'd make him wait in the sit position and then give him a treat. Then when I've asked him to lay down I would give him another treat. If he lays down when I ask him to sit...forget the treat. He's extremely food motivated so it works:) |
Here is a thought. Why don't you teach her "down" command since it sound like she likes the to go to the down position? This way she is doing exactly what you want her to do. |
I agree, teach her Down, and then distinguish it from Sit. If she starts to slide out, you can say "Ah ah!" to let her know to stop. Or, you can help her stay in a Sit with your hands - for something that small, she should be able to catch on. :) |
I think this would be easy to fix When you give the sit command ... keep the treat in your fingers with your hand held up so for her to get it she must be sitting upright |
I have a similar problem with alfie though with him if I tell him down he'll go down- treat- fine, then he'll do a roll-over straight after. I dont treat unless I've asked for the action, he still tries it, he'll learn one day. |
