Major major issue! I just got my female yorkie(12 weeks old) about 3 weeks ago. She is tiny and uses the bathroom frequently which makes sense cause she very small. The main problem is that she steps in both her urine and poop every time then runs around the DAMN house. So now we got her a little crate which she goes #1 and #2 in it all day! 1st off is this normal? Will this get better? What do I do? PLEASE HELP!!! |
She's pretty young to be able to "hold" it all day. Try an X-pen with a bed, toys, food and water and a potty pad. It takes time and patience. |

Unfortunately, yes, it is normal. Yorkies seems to range pretty widely in their potty trainability... a lot of them are really tough. I would be taking her out every few hours to keep her from tracking in her own waste, and to get her used to a clean create. You can be greatful she's not eating it, at least! |
Are you sure her crate is sized correctly? It should be just big enough for her to turn around in. If she can sleep in one corner and potty in another, it is too big. |
Hehe .... pardon my laughing at your problem but been there done that what you can do is put your pup in an enclosed space and segregate a specific area for her to pee pups at their age will have to go often and usually you will be able to tell when she is getting ready to pee and esp poop immediately scoop her up and place her on the pad and have a pee or poop party when she does .... YAAY! :animal36 |
My boy yorkie tends to step in his pee - but my yorkies (1 boy & 1 girl) are potty trained to go outside though so they run around OUTSIDE after they step in it They've never stepped in poop that I know of. Buster is 9 months old and is just starting to pee "like a boy" which I think has helped him not step in his pee so much. |
