pottying in crate Hello Everyone! I have a 6 month old Biewer Yorkie that continues to go potty (poo and pee) in her crate at night. She is out of her crate all day and will let me know when she has to potty outside with very little accidents. I feed her her last meal around 5:30pm and take her out for her last potty at 10pm and make sure she poos and pees but she continues to poo and pee (overnight)before my husband takes her out at 6:30am. Her crate is small and she only has enough room to turn around. Shouldn't she be able to hold it until 6:30am? She weighs 4lbs 7oz. My other yorkie cries when she needs to go out during the night (at times) but she (Biewer) doesn't cry and doesn't seem to care. Its almost as if she thinks its ok. I'm really in need of any advice anyone has. Thanks!: |
Can you put her crate in an xpen with pee pads down in the pen and the crate door open? That way she has a place to go, but it isn't in her den. |
My 6 yr old that was rehomed to me 3 months ago was doing this. Sometimes she would hold it all night, other times not. I had her in an area that had a pee pad and her bed. I would go check the mailbox and she would pee and/or poo, even though she had been out to do business 15 minutes earlier. So, I made her an area just big enough to hold her bed, nothing more.She hasn't done it since, day or night. That's been like three weeks now. |
Thank you both for the advice, I really appreciate it. I have tried the pen with her crate and she figured out how she can jump onto the crate and jump out of her pen She is a real fiesty one and I have my hands full but she is just too cute! |

the crate is a wire crate but the bars are close together. I even try and make her crate as comfortable as possible with blankets and also tried putting nothing in her crate and it doesn't seem to matter to her. I thought dogs don't go to the bathroom were they lie down. What could be the problem? when I take her out of her crate the first thing I always do is take her out to potty so that she will understand that potty is outside...even if she messes in her cage. I have own alot of dogs in my lifetime and always felt I trained them fairly well. I am in a stuper with her but will continue to try anything. |
im having the same issue with my yorkie. Except, she does it when we leave the house. sounds like our yorkies could be related. if i try something out and it works, i will let you know... if she is in her crate at night, where is the crate located? it helped stop Belle from pooping in her crate (at least for a little while) when i moved her into the bedroom with me and my boyfriend. she would sleep in her crate near by and would do great all night. Maybe you could try that? |
I had a very simular situation and I switched feeding time from 6:00 to 4:30 and it seemed to stop the accidents at night in her crate atleaset she hasn't had one since I changed times. Hmmm |
well my Zsa Zsa is 16 weeks old and is now doing worse than what she was a couple weeks ago... she is peeing on the pads usually... but will not poop outside or on the pads.... she will be out for 30 minutes and come in and poop... on the floor or in her crate. I am at a loss.... I am going to try the xpen to see if that makes a difference. Let me know if you figure anything out lol=) |

If she poops in the house ,tell her "no" then take the poop and Zsa Zsa outside to her designated area and put the poop down for her to smell it. Leave the poop there and take her to that designated area several times a day. Telling her "go potty". If she goes potty then you give her a treat. Every time she goes in that area you will need to give her a treat (very important). I do this for Bianca and has worked very well for me. If you want her to go outside then you will need to eliminate the pee pads. I think this confuses a puppy. Let me know if this works for you. Best of luck! |

We try to feed Turk no later than 4:30 and take him out to potty one last time at 10pm. We figured out that 6:30 was too long to wait and started getting up with him at 5:30 instead. He still has accidents every now and then, but that one hour really did seem to make a difference! Good luck! We're struggling with the potty/poo in the crate as well. It can be very frustrating...just when we think we have it all figured out, he throws us for a loop! |
