aggresively protective? Hello, I have a one year old yorkie and she has been being very protective over the last week. suddenly today she has taken her favorite toy into her crate and will not let me near it!! Any ideas about why she would be behaving like this?? |
Is she spayed? If not she could have a false pregnancy, and be protecting her nest that she has made. |
She is not spayed, I will talk to the vet. She is at the groomer today (at Vet office) I had told my Husband that she was acting "pregnant", but she has never been away from me (near a male)except at the groomer???? I am calling them now. Thanks!!!! |

It could also be toy guarding. Buddy started this about 1yr of age. His whole personality changed and he did not have a false pregnacy:p He still does it from time to time and it drives me up the wall. Whenever he does this he never sees the thing again because he can become very aggressive. For the most part he shares everything but there are times he won't for whatever reason that is in his head. Just last week my granddaughter bought him a little stuffed toy with Lil Buddy on it. I gave it to him and he headed under the chair and threatened me with his growl and showing of teeth. I gave him 2hrs to calm down, he didn't and I took it away. He will never see it again. I have broken him 98% but there still are times he does this. It's not pleasant and it will always be in him. Look up toy guarding and don't take it lightly. It can become a problem. Good luck, |
She is also doing it with the family, whoever she is sitting/sleeping with she will not let the rest of the family near! She is 4 lbs, but quite lively!. I think she thinks she is a German Shepard. I will check this out, thanks for the info. |
my shiz/yorkie guards toys, he has a stash under the bed, I just let him be with them. |
ha I have a 9.5 lb Yorkshire/Maltese mix. Shes so cute But one time I noticed her stomach looked kind of big, I thought she was just a fatty. Then one day I was petting her, and she lactated. I looked this up online and it was a false pregnancy. I asked the vet as well and they said sometimes it happens, they will even make a nest area and guard it. Its very interesting. |
