pees in the house my yorkie just turned 3 and he still pees in the house. it usually happens when we leave him or he is mad at us. we have a dog door to our porch that he takes to poop outside, but chooses when he wants to use it to pee outside. what do i do so that he goes outside to go potty, i don't want it in my house, AT ALL! |
What did you do that mad him mad at you? First thing I suggest is crating him when you leave. It took my dog about a week to be quiet in his crate (first I started off with him right next to me, then leaving for short times), and then a month later he realized he loves his crate. He is not completely potty trained but he doesn't pee when I'm gone since he is in the crate. Maybe you just need to let him out more often, and give treats when he goes outside. Treats are important. |
I need help desperately. I have a 9 month old male yorkie that just does not understand the pads are for peeing and pooing and not the whole house or wherever he wants to go. We are usually good about putting him in his pen and he does his thing. But lately, he is holding it and will pee a little on the pad for us to let him out. Then he will do his big one on the carpet next to his pad. Tonight I was very mad at him, he pee'd on our bed and I had to wash and disinfect the whole bed. Why is he doing that? We only had him for 3 months and we are very consistent with him. I have another yorkie and a maltese and they are sooo good. both trained inside and out. I am thinking of crating him at night but since he has no discretion, what if he pees and poop in his crate too? Should I try to make the crate smaller, we did that the first few weeks but he kept on crying and we felt bad. So we bought a big pen and I think he is getting confused, since his bed is there, his pads and his food bowl with the timer. Please help.... I have never had so much issues with potty training than with this little guy....:mad: |
I wouldn't feel bad about crating. Most dogs love their crate, and anyway they need to earn their freedom. It has been 8 months for me and I can't say Scruffs is completely house trained, but it has been 3 weeks since his last accident and he definitely is learning slowly but surely. It's been really hard since he peed in the house for the first half of his life.. and was alone for 12 hours a day with no rules or walks. |
Thanks for your response. Did I mention that he is also a poop eater, but I learned from many members here to give him pineapple. So far, it is working. He has not been neutered since he is fairly small and a lot of his baby teeth are still intact. So we are waiting a few more months for that. Could that be a reason for the harder than normal potty training? I also want to mention that the lady we got him from ( he was 6 months then), we noticed that when we visited him, he was walking all over her carpet area and would be peeing and she would not even reprimand him. She told me to just put a diaper on him. At the time, we thought it was funny, didn't think it would be a nightmare. We notice he only does his peeing and pooing accident on the carpet. When he is in the living room area which is tiled. He seems to be better. But we can't keep him in that area the whole time. |
Pees in the house OOops. Forgot to also mention, the first 2 wks he was with us, we crate trained him,but he would do #1 and #2 in his crate. then we made the crate smaller. Felt bad for him, bought him a big x-pen with his mat, food bowl and potty pads. He is ok there except that when he is let loose without supervision, he pees all over the carpet in the house. And we do use Nature's Miracle as cleaner. |
I have a 6 yr old (rehomed to me 2 months ago) that is supposed to be pad trained. She thinks my wall to wall carpeting is a big pee pad! I am trying to break her of that so she will use the doggy doors to go outside like the rest of them.She is now confined when I am not there. I had her in her gated area when she is not supervised, and it had her bed and a pad in it, (just in case). She has held it all night long many times, but when I go to work and return two hours later, she's peed & pooped the pad. I own my own business and work only 1 mile from home so I go home and let her out every two hours.I treat & praise as well with her outdoor potty. I'm starting to think it's a separation thing, what do you guys think? So, beginning this morning I've made her gated area just big enough to hold only her bed. She has room to stand up, lay down and turn around in/on her bed, but nothing else. I am hoping this will work to teach her to hold it for outside. I mean, if she can physically hold it all night (11pm till 7 am), why can't she hold it during the day for 2 hours? I would appreciate any suggestions or anyone's experience with this same sort of situation. |

Welcome, I am sure you will find great advise help and support in here. I wish you would give some more detailed information on how is he in the crate... training routine.. etc... You can get more help if you give more details. |

Potty Training Nightmares Glad to read all the news on others attempts. My Yorkie "Shorty" stays dry and clean in the crate from 11-6:00am and cries and yips if he needs to go outside--during the day and free time outside the crate (and I take him out hourly or after each mealtime and play session) he is terrible. I never know what to expect. He will go outside, come in and 10 minutes later pee or poop on the rug. I can't believe he can manufacture that much waste. I think he saves a little each time to have something for inside. I don't want him in the crate 24 hrs. a day and just out for potty. Will it ever be safe to trust him for 2 hours to play and enjoy him? PattyO:rolleyes: |
