New yorkie mommy! Help please!!!!!! We welcomed a beautiful princess Yorkie into our home about 2 1/2 weeks ago. We started keeping her in her crate at night but she kept pooping in her crate at night. She would cry to let us know she had pooped, not before, but after she had pooped. We decided to go with the X-pen set up with an open crate and pee pee pads so she could go potty. That has worked with her only peeing and pooping on her pee pee pads at night. Here's the problem. She whines and cries at least twice in the middle of the night. She is going potty on the pee pee pads but she is still whining and crying? Is she just wanting our attention? If so, should we just ignore her at night instead of going to her aid. Last night, she started whining and crying around 4 AM. When we came to check on her, she had already pooped and peed on her pee pee pads. We cleaned up the poop and put down a new pee pee pad and put her back in her x-pen. She still whined and cried for over 30 minutes. She finally went back to sleep close to 5 AM and was back up at 7 for no apparent reason. HELP!!!! The lack of sleep is affecting me and my family. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!:confused::confused::confused::co nfused: |
Hmm, well you now have a new "baby" she maybe a baby in furry form, but she is still a baby and as you know babies wake up and cry at night. I put mine in the same room with me and when they cried I would just get up and hold or pet them and reassure them I was there and tell them in a soothing voice "shhhhhh go night night" to this day they know that "night night" means to go to bed. She maybe just waking up and feeling scared when she realizes she is all alone. Do you take her outside before bed and make her go "potty" outside? that may help too, as she may not like the smell of the "potty" in the pen. Hope some of this helps! Once I knew they could hold their potty through the night I would put them in my bed up by my head, to be sure not to crush them...but that's only if you eventually want her sleeping with you. |
I am no expert, but I would get up and change the pads. Give her a treat and tell her to go to sleep. I would put on music, instrumental - on low and get up my normal time. It is a long process and if she is doing her business on the pads instead of her crate, I would encourage this by changing the pads. I go to sleep late, I make sure there are clean pads for the night. My Zoe and I have a nightime ritual. I hold her, put music on a timer of 50 min and give her a few treats. Hubby gets up 5:30 AM for work, if she has clean pads, he does not let Zoe out till she soils her pad. He gives her a treat and allows her to come in my bedroom and sleep in her bed there. She is 6 years old. I learned the hard way that Zoe does not like to use a soiled pad. We had given her the run of 1/2 the house at night, but learn that outside noises and animals would have her bark and run to the sliders. We decided to confine her to the kitchen and the barking ceased. No sliders for her to check, so she didn't sense the nocturnal animal life outside. Soothing music to let her know she was not alone. Be patient, you may need to experiment to find what works for you. Good luck, I hope this helps you in some way. |
I feel your pain! I recently became a new mommy to my Mia Bella. I got her when she was 6 weeks old and now she is 10.5 weeks old. We are having a time with potty training and sleeping. I am exhausted, because it is just me! I live in an apartment, so there are times at night she barks very loudly for a long period of time. I cannot ignore her because I am afraid she will wake my neighbors. Last night, she would not go to sleep until 1130 pm, she woke back up at 130 am and played until 230 am, then woke up again at 545 am. I am EXHAUSTED! So I too need help on potty training and sleeping patterns! Help us please!!! |
Puppies and dogs in general do not like being alone They will cry as pups just like babies do when they wake up and you're not around AND just like babies ... if you come in and check on them when there is nothing wrong they will cry all the time to have you come back Put some of your hamper clothes in with her a radio or a ticking clock sometimes works but you're going to have to let her cry a little so she will comfort herself |
