Yorkie PEEING in MY bed !!!!
 

My 7 month old Yorkie sleeps with my boyfriend and i during the night. I take her for her last pee at 10:30pm and then bed time. I have no clue why but she will pee in my bed probably twice a month (Gross). I have a pee pad on the ground (she hates them) and during the day i take her outside every 2 1/2- 3 hours and she makes no mistakes inside. I would say she's 95% house trained if it wasn't for her accidents in my bed (which aren't always at night). A couple of weeks ago my boyfriend just got in from work and she peed on him/my bed. She usually pees on his side of the bed too (my boyfriend is really good with her so i don't know why it's always his side). I have a crate for her which i think i'm going to have to start puting her in at night (i don't want to) but i can't have my bed getting ruined, Plus i'm getting another yorkie baby on Oct 21st and i don't want her following Ruby's mistakes.
Any ideas on what i can do??

rosie has done that 3 times on our RL comforter which doesnt fit into the washing machine so each time it has to go to the dry cleaners which isnt cheap £10.50 bout $19.00

Does your dog sleep in your bed? This sounds like marking to me...Especialy the thing about the boyfriend.

The bed is a location of HIGH prestige! My dog tried to claim it for himself also and I KNOW he is fully potty trained. After reducing his status in the house we have had no recurrances.

That sounds like an EXCELLENT starting place. Begin a regiment of serious crate training now, and you will reduce a lot of problematic behaviors. I would say that this dog is not allowed to sleep on the bet anymore because it is clearly going to her head. She's trying to let your boyfirend know that he is on HER side of the bed. Crate time.

Have you tried potty pants for when she goes to bed in your bed? That way she can still sleep with you both and you can save your bed and sheets? I just started using them on Kiko. Because I just moved into a carpeted home and he and my newly adopted westie thought it was a free for all potty land! Now things are going better though lol. I like it alot it has freed me from much stress.

Yes my dog sleeps in my bed every night with me. Ok, that makes sense about her letting my boyfriend know that it's her side of the bed, I was wondering if it had something to do with a territorial thing or if she just didn't like him. So your saying i should start crate training, but does that mean she can never sleep with me at night again? I'd love to have Ruby and my new yorkie Bella (when i get her) both sleep with me is there anything i can do so they can sleep with me without peeing the bed?!

Potty pants would be a great idea. I never thought of that.

Yea it has worked great for me, and the inner disposable lining is just like a kotex, so I buy the super stayfree in bulk and it saves money and I think they work better too lol. You can find the potty pants in the potty training section of petstores. Good luck with your girls!

All 3 of my dogs sleep in bed with my boyfriend and I, and every now and then SOMEONE pees on the bed. It's frustrating because it is ALWAYS when i leave the room early in the AM to use the washroom and come back to bed to find pee on MY side of the bed (all 3 of them sleep on my side of the bed too). I don't really know what to do about it as I don't know who does it as all my dogs are potty trained and use their washroom in the bedroom every night/morning. I have tried to kennel them in the mornings but they SCREAM and CRY on and off all morning (they are kennel trained for when I go out, but they KNOW when I am still home)! Doggie diapers sound like a good idea for you. Good luck with your little one, I don't know what to do about mine.

Ok so that diaper thing sounds like the one i have.. umm i had to get one because my girl went into heat really early before i could spay her. The diaper i have is the one that you put pads in so i think it's the same one your talking about. Ruby had a few accidents during her heat while wearing the diaper and the pee leaked out a lot. So your saying just put like a bigger human pad into the diaper?! Makes sence.

Most dog experts will discourage you from letting a clearly dominant dog sleep in your bed. If your Yorkies are terribly small, it may even be dangerous for them. I'll lay out a few facts clearly and let you decide:

1. the bed is a prestige territory.
2. Dogs are territorial.
3. you want to give them this territory...
4. You want to be able to take it away at certain times and expect them not to act out...

It just seems like an unrealistic expectation when you consider how the dog sees it. It's like asking your kid to let homeless people share his bed. They just aren't going to like it. So if you must house the homeless, you would probably get your kid his OWN bed. Your dogs will be much happier once they know clearly what's theirs.

I'll tell you something though: We DO let our dog sleep in our bed...but he has in fact marked on my side. The big difference is that I have always slept there, and I had subtle ways of gently letting him know that it was MY territory and not his. (The way I moved him whenever he came up to pillow height). He sleeps at the FOOT of the bed, not the head, or on any one side.

Also we have gone to other great lengths to reduce his dominance in the house. He eats AFTER us, can't come onto furniture we are on without invite, is unable to initiate play unless I have decided it is playtime...etc...

A dog can be a good bed warmer if there's not going to be people they will consider interlopers, and if you take the time to work on other dominance issues. Otherwise, you are going to get a sex-yapper, or an unintentional 3-way during intimate moments, and a wet blanket to sleep in.

The ones I bought actually say they are potty diapers for when you have a puppy that's not totally house broken yet or an older dog that can't hold it as well anymore. But I think the one you have should work just fine, yea I put an unscented super (human) sanitary pad the one that has the soft cottony top and it works really well. Especially since it's just for when you go to bed. The other cool thing is that by her just wearing it at night she might (maybe) decide it's not the same as marking the bed and not pee in it, so it might turn out to be a win win prevention. I hope it works for you I understand how you feel I like having kiko in bed with me too, if he started peeing on the bed I would be so stressed out too just like I felt when they started doing it on the carpet floor! I hope the pants work well for you.
