Do you ignore jumping up & down Lily is full of excitement when I get home. She jumps up & down and can hardly contain herself. She actually looks a little crazed. Usually I tell her to sit and then pick her up. I was reading that this type of excited behavior can lead to the dog jumping up on visitors when they come to your home. The article said that when you come come to the dog in the excited state you are suppose to ignore them until they calm down. I've been home for 45 mins and Lily is still jumping and barking. At this rate she may never be out of her xpen. Has anyone else had experience with this? |
Just keep on doing what you are already doing. You are in the right way... Be constant and patience. And don't expect a yorkie to be too come ;) |
She'll never get out of her X pen? When you come home you keep her in there until she calms down? If you say yes to that question that's why she jumps and barks When you come home you have to greet your dog It doesn't have to be lovy-dovey where you pick them up and hug them But you have to say hello with some sort of touch to stop that heightened emotion and stop it from getting to a fever pitch |
My Lexi does the same thing but no barking. She is 9 mos old. I walk over to the pen and tell her its ok. Then I walk away and ignore her. Sometimes she is still up on the side of the pen but it stops the jumping. Then I will ask her to sit before I open the door to the pen. Then I love her up!!!!!! She does still go crazy when my DH comes home and she knows she is not suppose to jump on him, so she jumps in the air. It is crazy funny. He ignores her jumping and eventually after following him all over the house jumping she gives up. The he tells her to sit and loves her up! Yorkies love to jump!:D |
