Piddle Pad Ripper 1 Attachment(s) Someone asked if anybody has a Yorkie who tears up piddle pads- the attached photo should answer that question! Actually, Riley only rips when left alone. I guess he could do worse to express his displeasure. I have started picking up his pad or paper when I leave and he waits for me to put it back down when I return to use it. If he is desperate, he will make a puddle on the exact spot on the floor where the pad usually sits. Since it is vinyl flooring in the bathroom, I don't fuss at him- I just clean it up with a sponge and disinfectant spray. If you have ever had a vinyl floor turn funny colors from using a rubber-backed rug, here's a good tip. I wasn't sure if the plastic backing on the piddle pad would cause the same reaction, so I put unprinted newsprint under the pad. Riley got used to that, and now will use newsprint alone the same as the pads. It's alot cheaper- just requires the sponge and disinfectant after I pick up the paper, just to be sure nothing soaked through. You can get enormous supplies of the unprinted newprint at the local newspaper for about $3.00 a roll. They call them end-rolls and sometimes will even give them away free. One end roll has lasted me 6 weeks and is only half used. I don't notice the urine odor any more than with the piddle pads. However, if left alone, Riley will still rip! |
Oh, just look at him sitting there all handsome, and I can tell by the look on his face he knows he was not supposed to do that LOL :p |

He is so adorable in the corner like that. :embarasse I just want to kiss him.... He can rip up all the potty pads I have. :yorkiesar |
Riley is sweet, even if he does rip up his piddle pads, LOL. Schatzie's pads lay on a plastic bottom, one that is uges for a large crate. Seems to work great as it has sides on it so elimates from any pad scooting. Schatzie has never seemed to do much ripping of them and 95% of the time actually uses it for the correct reasons, LOL. Great picture of Riley - he's looking at it like "you don't really expect me to use that do you?" Too cute!! :p |
My babies rip them up too!!! My two babies..both a year old now...rip them up too when we leave them alone. They are so good when we are around at home. They would come to us everytime they went potty ...waiting of course for their reward. We leave them in the apartment when we have to go to work and that is 8:00 am everyday . We have a pad holder which I got from Drs Foster and Smith. So the Piddle PAd that we get from them exactly fits in the holder. But everyday we come home at 6:00 pm it would be ripped into pieces. Of course we would get upset and let them know that the ripped pad was no good. SO we have to clean up everyday. We are getting so frustrated. Anybody could suggest something? :( |
Help Schatzie\'s MOM!!! Maybe you could help us Schatzie\'s Mom...They never chew on our sofas or other furnitures. We would always leave them new set of toys everyday so they would have something that they could get occupied with while we have to work...but they always rip up the pad which they never attempt to do when we are at home. I wish I could be a stay at home Mom but I need to work too. So help...Please. |
Could be attention getting behavior. Chewy did the same thing, I took it to mean: "See, I hate this stupid pad and don\'t want to use it." So we switched to out-door and had wonderful success thereafter. |
Hello Chewy and Chewy\'s Mom or Dad? Sorry. I really don\'t post quite as much as I want to. So Iam not really familiar with eveybody. So pls. excuse my ignorance. What do you do? DO you take Chewy to go potty outside every morning and at night? I take them outside in the morning ...in our small balcony...but they need to have a pad in the house while we are at work. I know they use it while we are away because the carpet in the apartment is always dry and I suspect that they only rip it up just before we arrive home. |
Hmmm...Chewy gets really freaky about an hour before his momma comes home. It\'s quite possible that they are feeling nervous energy from that anticipation, and then acting out. Is it that you keep such a clean home that this is the only "shredable" thing in reach? IF so, KUDOS! |
Hello everyone!! I am new to this forum and have gotten some great tips from reading threads related to this topic. I have the same exact problem with my Nikko. He pretty much thinks he can go anywhere he wants and hasn\'t quite gotten the idea that wee wee pads are not toys. Someone in another posting suggested spraying some bitter apple on the pad so he won\'t chew on it. I think I will try that. Maybe that will help you as well. |
I try my best to maintain a decent /clean place...thanks... That does makes sense.Maybe they are really getting so nervous and excited anticipating our arrival everyday and to get those out of their system they use the act of chewing/ripping pee pads...unfortunately...but why can\'t they just chew on the bones and toys that we provide for them...sorry...I hope you don\'t mind if I am asking too many questions...you just seem to be so knowledgeble and experienced on this topic. Do we have to give them something else to channel their nervousness and excitement? If so...can you suggest what would this be? My husband and I would really appreciate your help. |
Thanks for the idea Nikko\'s Human. I could try that. Thanks...how old is your Nikko now? |
I think bitter apple was a good suggestion. However you should know that I\'m not particularly knowlegable about pad training...As I said before, I just gave up immediately, lol. I\'ll do some searches and see what I can turn up... |
Nikko is 4 months old. It has been a little hard for me because I have to leave him in the kitchen while I go to work during the week. I leave his food and water bowl along with all his toys and a wee wee pad. Sometimes he goes on the pad but I will find dried up little puddles along the floor as well. Friday I came home and he had shred the wee wee pad to bits!! He is such a cutie I find it hard to get mad at him. I will definitely try the bitter apple spray but I hope it doesn\'t deter him from using the pad. |
Oh...Nikko is still a baby... Well...hello. Let me introduce myself. I am Rocelle and My babies are Cleo & Ceasar and they are a year old. I know its is hard for us working parents. I wake up or they wake me up everyday at 6:00 am...I feed them breaksfast...while they are chowing I would open the balcony door of our apartment..we keep a pee pad there...and immediately after eating...about 10 mins. after...they would poop and pee...they do that pretty good...on the pee pad...my husband and I get ready for work and leave at 8:00 am everyday...we keep the balcony door closed all the time because the complex\'s policy won\'t allow and tolerate barking dogs...so of course we don\'t want to take a risk....no choice but to keep it close and just leave a pee pad tucked on a pad tray everyday in case they have to go which they always do...but yes they would shred and rip it everytime. :( |
