What type of treats do you use??? undefined In the process of beginning to train our Yorkie, Kahula. We have had trouble finding a treat he loves that does not upset his bowel movements. : :confused: What type of treats have been well received by your yorkie?? Thanks for the help. :) Msantiago |
Definitely Greenies!! The dogs love them plus the treats clean their teeth and help with bad breath!! Most use the little bits for their Yorkies and are the perfect size to use while training. You can get greenies from local pet stores, www.greenies.com, or even Ebay. Hope this helps!! |
i use greenies and pupcorn and nala loves it. the other day at the vet i told them how much she liked it and the dental hygenist told me that her 11yr old pug had always had a sensitive stomach and could only eat a certain food and no treats or table scraps but when the came out with pupcorn she tried it (since it's suppose to be ok for dogs with sensitive tummies) and her dog has had any problems yet. |
LOL..........I guess my dogs have tummys of iron, we waste so much food, we always fix to much so once a week we clean out the frig.......to day was one of those days, baked ham, corn, grilled chicken pulled off the bone, and some green beans. They love it, and they eat all the vegies too. I occasionally give the crunchy little bones but they barely eat them.......trying to keep healthy teeth, they will grind them up but not really eat them........guess I am using the wrong stuff!........maybe I should try greenies. |
Greenies are a definite hit, but those are more long-term treats because they take a while to eat. When I give Hercules a treat for going to the bathroom, or something like that, it's usually PupPeroni. I break it into small pieces, so he doesn't eat too much in one day. He loves it. |
Otis hates greenies. I wished he liked them because it would definitely help his rancid breath. hehehe.... Otis LOVES liver treats. |
Schatzie is not too overly crazy either over the greenies, i give them to her all the time but Im thinking she is not looking at them as "treats". She seems to use them only when she "steals" them from Annabelle. :eek: (she can be such a tease!! :D ) However regarding actual treats, gosh the list is a mile long!! There are jerky treats, pupcorn, hard crunchy bones, and whatever else looks really cute on the bag or canister when I head out to the pet store. Our pantry is filled with doggie treats. There are Little Ceaser cookies, liver treats, puparoni's, and it goes on and on and on...Im a real sucker in the doggie food dept. I figure since it's not wise to change their dog food too often I have full shopaholic (sp) attitudes when it comes to "treats". Then of course their are the human treats too. Vegis, cheese, yogurt, cereal, ice cream, chicken, beef, fish, banana's, etc. Pretty much Schatzie's treats are everything under the sun except for chocolate, onions, crud like that. But of course in extreamly small amounts. :p |
My yorkie doesn't seem to like the dog treats so I am considering giving her small pieces of bacon as treats. I'm sure it won't do any harm. On another note, I read something about bell training a dog to go outside but I don't know much about it. If anyone has ever heard of it let me know if it works because it really sound like it would be a great thing! :D |
My vet recoomended to me to try the Goldfish crackers for babies. They have no salt and are bland. Evertything else was upseting his tummy. Now we are adding greenies. I gave him a little bit of one to see if that upsets his tummy. Hopefully not. |

If you're questioning treats for training, I've just started researching the topic for myself. Carter and I had our first obedience training session this morning and his trainer used cut up (very small pieces) of hotdog that Carter absolutely LOVED. He has never had people food of any kind. When we left the trainer's house, I stopped at PetSmart to see what was readily available. What I decided on for the short term (until I can research more thoroughly) is Nature's Recipe Training Treats. They are very small, soft and pork chop shaped. I easily split them in two or three pieces to make them even smaller. http://www.naturesrecipe.com I don't see it on their website however. I'll let you know if I find something else that is better. |
