almost a year old an chews it all Hello my little (big) boy Charlie is 10 months old and is still devouring everything in his path! He has chewed and destroyed thousands of dollars worth of furniture and I have no idea how to stop him from doing this. Hes chewed holes in the dry wall and almost eaten a whole wicker basket. If you have some tips please help me out! Thank you!! |
have you tried bully sticks? they are a lifesaver you can get them at Petco,Petsmart,online how much exercise does he get a day? he should go on 1-2 walks a day make sure he has plently of chew toys to chew on you can buy bitter apple spray at Petco and spray anything that you don't want him to chew on |
We take them to the park everyday and he has chew sticks and dozens of toys. The only thing I haven't tried is that apple bitting stuff I've never heard of it. He is soo out of control with it I do not know what else to do. |

No Chew Spray for Dogs, Cats & Horses at PETCO i had a problem with my furbaby Polo chewing on the walls then i started to take him on a longer walk 45 minutes plus 15 minutes training inside and 10 minutes training outside and i put unscented deodorant on the the corner of the walls and he has not touched them since and i give him lots of bully sticks:thumbup: |
Is he teething? I know some people might not a agree but I gave my kids ice cubes and these toys that you can put in the freezer just like you would for infants. Also, we baby proofed our house before bringing ours home. They both were in the x-pen during the day when we were at work so they couldn't get into anything except what was in there with them. Another thing about the toys... some toys are just not effective as teething toys - you really want to make sure that it's something they can chew on - not just play with. My breeder gave Max the best gift ever - it was a braid with a knot at each end but it was made out of denim. He still loves it! Also, I think there are Kongs (which are hard rubber but are meant for chewing) and interactive toys that will try to keep his mind off of getting into trouble :p I also gave mine Merrick Flossies when I was home - which they still love to sit and chew on at night (and they're 3 & 2 yrs old). If he's not running around when he's at the park then he probably needs to be walked, too. They really do need daily exercise - especially when they're young. :thumbup: |

Ugh yeah I have tried it all, although I never tried the anti bitting spray so I will be getting that. And I'm very positive hes done teething all his adult teeth have been in for a while. Hes just soo bad hha, but I love him just the same. Thanks for all your input! |
how about the butchers bones small ones with the whole and you can put peanut butter or some treats :rolleyes:also a crate from time in time with the bone in it i think it works wonders |
If it’s happening when your're home, you need to catch him in the act and tell him "NO" in a firm voice and give him something you want him to eat. If it’s happening when you’re not home, it may be separation anxiety. My Lola has a bit of SA and has eaten holes in walls, etc. Or you can confine him to a small area to have better visibility. It could also be a phase. I hear they go through another teething stage around 7-10month of age. Hope everything gets better...good luck |
So this is going to sound a little bit crazy but........Our little one liked to chew on the wood stairs going up to the bed. We tried bitter apple, but he liked it :rolleyes:. So I rubbed some vaseline on all the areas where he was chewing:p. Well he didn't like that ;), I know it sounds crazy but it worked. |
Try the apple bitter stuff, you can find it at pet stores, or pet co etc. It works, as Baxter started to chew on a antique hope chest. I sprayed that on it a few times and he has quit chewing furniture all together |
Chewing My dog also liked Bitter Apple. My vet told me years ago to only use Nylabones and with this dog I had to use the durable ones. I would also crate her when you are not with her because swallowing things like wood and wicker is probably not good for her.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork I promise it does get better!:):):) |
Wow, I feel so lucky after reading all this. My pup never destroyed anything (though she is a bit of a kleptomaniac, she doesn't eat it, just puts it with all her other stuff in her toy box!) If Milly was ever a bit hyper though, I'd just make sure her walk was extra long, that she got a good run off-lead, then I'd bring her home and she'd just laze about the rest of the day :) |
Haha yah that is the same with Nana she doesn't chew a thing and never has so I'm glad i only got one bitter if anything haha. |

they can be evil.. my dog chewed up my carpet!! there are three places where there are holes on the floor.. and he likes corners of furniture too. i don't know exactly when (around a year old) but he stopped. maybe it was the constant scolding, maybe it was his age, but i think it's mainly the exercise. make sure your dog is actually burning up his energy. a tired and lazy dog won't chew as much. good luck! |
