Help Won't Come i have been training my furbaby since the day i got him and he has been doing well on all of his tricks except come no matter how many times i call him he will not come even if i have chicken, hot dog, cheerios his favorite treats and the couple of times he did come i praised him and picked him up gave him a treat that was when he was young i am at my wits end i have to corner him to take him outside, walks, etc he just turned one in may are there any techniques that you guys use that really work?? |
If you have been calling and calling him you're digging your own grave His name is now just background noise What you need to do is get him to realize that it's in his best interest to listen to you You have to regain his name recognition with his treats have him right next to you Say his name ... when he looks to you give him the treat repeat this over and over again Put him at a leads length .... do the samething Call him ONCE If he doesn't come turn and squat down and pretend you are digging for something ... he'll come The trick is to use his name only one time |
I am having the same problem with Pebbles she is 5 months old. I have started putting her leash on in the house and practicing come, I call her once and if she doesn't come I tug at her leash then when she reaches me I give her a treat. I hope it works. |

Practice, practice and practice some more. Good luck |
the 'come' command is a hard one for a lot of us. for a while milu got really good at it and came to me everytime i called. but that was when i was working on it with her, and i basically wore a treat bag on me 24/7. so she always listened. i am since stopped doing that, and she is not so good with 'come' commend anymore. so i am trying to work with her on it again. you need to make sure that you never say 'come' and then do something the dog does not like. like if you are going to wash your dog, or pick up your dog, or anything the dog does not like, don't say 'come' and then do it. just walk over and get your dog. otherwise, your dog will associate 'come' with something bad, like a punishment. try to always only say it once. and have your dog come to you. and ALWAYS reward the dog EVERY TIME for coming to you. good luck! :D |
These little guys are tough when it comes to the come command because they are so active and so easily sidetracked by distractions but if you stick to the rules and don't get into chasing them down because to them it'll all become a game and you'll have all your neighbors looking out their windows saying ... Oh look there's that poor sap again chasin' after his dog  |
