My Harley took a while to get used to it... We welcome you and your Harley to YT!

Does she like squeak toys? I live in an apartment building so I'd hook on the leash, and hold the leash and squeak toy in my hand, I'd get him chasing me and the squeak toy up and down the hallway, when he followed I threw the toy a few steps ahead as a reward. The I practices "drop it" and continued. I carried some treats, but my Harley is a picky treat eater, so the toy became the treat. If that still doesn't help what about taking a 10ft or longer lead, in a quiet place and sitting on the ground and playing fetch. That way she moves where you want her to without you leading her, and she still has the leash on... it may just be the right baby step between my first suggestion and where she's at now...

Hello,,When I first got my yorkie he was afraid of the outside! He would freeze up and not move at all on the leash. We were practically dragging him around! Dont worry though. We used to practice using the leash in the house and one day he just started walking! Be patient and soon you will be walking your yorkie on the leash like me!

When I first got Keoki at 6 months old he had never been on a leash. I live in NYC and had to walk him- when I would he would put on the breaks or just lie down- I was both frustrated and embarrassed ( you know NY'ers would all have something to say ) so I had a trainer come and help me- she had me buy a sense-ation harness online Dog Harness, Dog Training Supplies | Sense-ible and Sense-ation Dog Harness - it was a miracle!!!!! I'm telling you it works!!!! When they get a bit older and used to walking with you you can switch to a regular harness now my furbutt always wants to go for walks :) Keep us posted!

My little baby Yui is four months old. When I started walking her she refused to move and just sat on the ground. What made her start walking was when I put down the leash and started walking away from her. If I got far enough away her pack instincts kicked in and she would follow me. I had to keep a very close eye on her because I was afraid she might run away, but she didn't. After three or four walks like this, she got used to the whole concept of walking and let me hold the leash.

A second thing I did that helped a ton was buying a flexi leash, or an extendable leash (whatever you want to call it). It extends up to 10', which is far enough away that she wanted to follow me. So I would put her flexi leash on her harness then just start walking. Usually, by the time the leash fully extended she started walking towards me. I gave her lots of encouragement along the way and now we're to the point where she doesn't put up too much of a fight when we walk. For whatever reason, she still hates doing it, but she's pretty willing.

Oh! And I noticed someone else said to walk towards home instead of away from it - that works really well for us. Even now, she will lay down and refuse to keep walking when we go away from my apartment (I just make her get up and she keeps going), but as soon as we turn around she has BOUNDLESS energy, LOL.
