Agility training home kit? I am interested in starting Chewy in agility training. I was wondering if anyone knew of a home kit, that has beginnign excercises, some equipment, and perhaps a book or video that I could purchase to get started with a little home training? Does that exist? |
I don't think anyone has a complete kit. You probably can find a traveling agility training set(equipment-instruction not included) for about $160 but it is cheaply made. However, you can buy equipment and instruction seperately: You can find some books and video on agility. www.mightymitedoggear.com/agilitybooks.html www.dogwise.com www.amazon.com Agility equipment aren't very cheap to buy. Best best is to find plans and build your own. |
I found this thing.... http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1126824420162 Would that be a waste of money? I know NOTHING about agillity training, but from my prancy, intelligent, and agile dog's behavior we can see that he loves going over and under and through and around things with exagerated grace and style. He jumps the smallest hump as if they were great hurdles, it's really cute. So anyway, back on topic, my wife wants to enroll him in classes pretty bad, and her birthday is tommorow, so I thought some kind of home-starter kit like the above would be a good gift...But if it's just chintsy junk that poses more a danger to my dog than an enrichment, then...{snuff!} |
It's one of the cheaply make agility set. I don't think it would be too dangerous for your dog(because he is small) unless he is fast and go through these obstacles with force, then you might have some problems. I might run my 5lbs yorkie through it, and possibly my 12lbs yorkie, but I would never put my 35 lbs border collie(Sake) on it. It's just too flimsy. If I did, Sake will roll the tunnel sideways and probably spook her; pop out the weavepoles from the ground when she go through it; pause box is suppose to be a table which should be at least 8" off the ground and higher for her(probably confuse her); and if the jump bar is attached to the pole and Sake clips it with her foot, it will cause her to trip and hurt herself. |
You can get the same kit for 31.95 from www.ryanspet.com. You can have them send you a catalog directly. I live in Phoenix and can go directly to their wholesale wharehouse. It is great, they have so much stuff. I thought about gettingthe dog agility kit, but right now it is just too hot. |
I found very sturdy, well made kits on ebay last year for Megan for Christmas. Try looking there. |
