Please Help Oliver!!! I brought Oliver home about 3 weeks ago, and I adore him but he cries horribly whenever I leave. Everyone keeps telling me that this is a phase and it will go away, but surely there is something we can do! It doesn’t matter if he is in the crate or if he has free roam of the house or if he’s just locked in the bedroom. Even if I close the bathroom door to shower he goes nuts scratching the door/carpet and screams L He has never been destructive, but it’s such a terrible scream. I’ve done everything – bought kong toys (that he only gets when I leave) and I gave him some old clothes for the scent. At night he sleeps in his bed beside my bed, I don’t let him sleep with me unless it’s a nap. I’m concerned obviously because it’s heartbreaking, but also because I live in an apartment complex and I don’t want anyone to call our landlords and complain. He’s 9 months old, and he is only crated 8 hours a day with a 30 minute break (I go home for lunch). I know there are scent things you can plug into the walls (I’m not sure of the exact name) but there $40+ and I’ve heard they don’t do anything… Any ideas?!?!?!? |
Since you've had him for only 3 weeks he might take a while to get used to your schedule But in the meantime you can try a few things that might make it easier First when you leave don't make a big production of it No good byes and no kisses telling him that Mommy will see you later Make it as matter of fact and clean as you can On a day that you are off Try and go in and out of the house many times leaving him there so he becomes desensitized to your leaving and that you're leaving isn't always for hours on end |
I feel for you. :( Been there done that sort of thing. I've tried those scent things you plug in that's supposed to call them down. It didn't work for Rudy. Have you tried leaving your TV & radio on while your gone? JoeyP gave good suggestions also. Good Luck!!! :) |
They are just like kids, crying whenever you leave them alone. And you know why? because you left them, and when they cried before, you came and picked them up,you or someone else.. I know it is hard, but you have to leave him crying,he will stop eventually, and than at least 30 minutes after he stops,go there and take him out..soon there will be no crying anymore |
