Dry Wall Chewer PLEASE HELP My puppy is pretty good. Goes on his pads, doesn't bark too much etc. I start work at 2:30 and my boyfriend gets home at about 4 everyday so he's only left for around an hour and a half by himself. We decided to get him an xpen because he yelps and cries the whole time we are gone when we put him in a crate and we live in an apartment building so that wasn't going to work! The xpen is really tall but every time my boyfriend comes home he is out of it! It is hilarious to think that he jumped over it. I wish we could put a camera to see what how he does it. We have found three corners that have been bitten including the baseboard. I went out and bought some BitterYuck yesterday hoping this will help. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? |
is he chewing the baseboard because he is suffering from separation anxiety. I don't know much about how to solve this problem as Layla never had an issue- but the bitter apple will only prevent him from chewing that- unless his anxiety is resolved he will just find something else to destroy. Hopefully someone on here can hlep you with this. |
Ahhh... I think there is some sort expen cover you can get, I would put a stop to that bc he could really hurt himself. The chewing is bc he is still a pup and he is probably teething. How about getting him a Kong and that should keep him occupied for that little time he is alone ;) P.S. I had drywall, baseboard and wood door chewers. Their little teeth marks are still there :p I use to put clear deordorant on the spots to deter them ;) |
My pup does this also. He is about 5 months old now and it is better than it was. He will eventually stop after he is teething:) |
I thought I was alone!! Lola is now 2 and chewed dry wall and baseboards for almost 6 months. I put bitter apple which worked but she was sneaky and started eating base board in other parts of the house. Every where I looked there was a chewed corner. I just kept saying "Leave It" and watching her and she eventually grew out of it and now at 2 years old has never touched it again. My poor husband though has been stuck sanding, replacing and painting new baseboard and drywall. She is cute though!! Good luck |
I have had holes chewed in the dry wall by at least 4 dogs. Bitter Apple never worked. So I don't have any ideas other than to put a cover on the xpen. |

wall eating We had the same problem with eating the corner of walls..I found that the way those sprays work is if you are there to say no and spray it on the spot...It takes constant showimg him no to stop...We stoppped all the biting during the day while we were gone by getting toys..Lots of them..The more we got the less he destroyed...I have toys everywhere but its better than my walls and furniture getting eaten...And if he hops out of his area..Which mine had done..I decieded to put water and two toys on the other side of the fence area in case..I found that my little guy could go over, but not get back...He would jump through a small whole in his Soft doghouse..It was soo funny..Good luck and just keep with it..Oh and as for that biiter stuff to put down..My guy would eat it and liked it..Petco sells a training spray, in there brand that I used..Good luck!! |
Baxter stopped chewing the baseboards when he got older and all baby teeth were gone. I thought about giving him a piece of 2x4 to chew! He had all kinds of stuff to chew on - kong, flossies, nylabones, etc, but he preferred the wall!! |
To the OP...purchase a cover for the top of your x pen or purchase an enclosed one. And to anyone with chewers....rub gel deodorant on it...they may taste it but they will not eat it. |
