My dog doesn't tell me..... Tyler will not notify me that he needs to go other than sniffing. When he's in his crate he will whine but out of the crate he does not. I have also been keeping him attached to me AT ALL TIMES!!! Will he eventually start to let me know he needs to go outside by whining? Or will I have to guess forever when he needs to go? |
Similar problem I hope someone can give some advice on this. I have a problem with this, too! I just have to take my yorkie out every few hours. She just doesn't scratch on the door or anything. Sometimes she will make noises at me, and if she doesn't stop, then I know she needs to go to the bathroom. How can I get her to consistently and clearly tell me? |

I've heard of bell training a dog so they ring a bell with their nose or their paw and let you know they have to go out. You can do a search on these forums and find some info or Google it. I had/have this problem with Jackson too. He's about 98% potty trained, I would say, at 7 mo. old. He ALWAYS lets me know but usually it's in a silent way and I feel bad so I may use bell training as well. He will either bark at the door or just stare at the door. lol |
Thanks! Oops. I probably should have had my first post go to introducing myself. *run off to do that* |
If he's sniffing, he's telling you. That's your cue. If you want him to go to the door & bark, you need to teach him. First teach him to bark/speak. Each time you go to the door get him to speak, the go out the door. He should catch onto that fairly quickly. It's worth a try. Good luck! But if he's attached to you he can't really go to the door to speak. Think about it, and you'll come up with an answer. |
I used bells at the door to teach morgan to let me know she had to go out. Worked like a charm. |
