Soufflé's pipi & caca Hello everyone, before I bring forth the problem I'll give you a bit of background. Soufflé is my brother's Yorkie(some of you already know him from the horror trailer "bad doggy"). He's 5 months old and he pees and poops indoors everywhere. His owners are too lazy to train him. My brother is coming to visit for a couple of weeks and I'm planning to give the dog some intensive training. Preferibly I'd like to make Soufflé do all his dirty stuff outside. Any suggestions? |
... doesn't that mean your brother is too lazy to train him? Honestly, I think that could be pretty tough if your brother is not on board. Do you have an xpen? Most people confine their dogs during potty training so the dog can't sneak off to do their business. You could try leashing the dog to you, again so that you can watch him at all times. Take him outside every 1-2 hours, praise and treat when he goes. If you catch him going in the house, interrupt him and take him outside. Hope that helps. |

A five month old dog should be able to hold it for up to six hours. If you are very consistent and very lucky, you will be able to train him in a few weeks. A rule of thumb is that a dog is officially trained when he's gone 30 days without an accident. I can understand you wouldn't want a dog pottying in your place. Hopefully you will inspire your brother to keep the training up, otherwise he'll probably un-learn it when he goes back. Maintaining a very consistent schedule should help too. Take him out as soon as you get up and right before you go to bed. Feed him at the same times every day; he'll probably need to poop within an hour after that. Good luck! |
If you give the dog the run of the house he's going to pee and poop everywhere When he comes you're going to have to curtail his freedom a bit and the other posters are right without your brother on board it's not going to work |
