He just won't potty on a lead Our little guy Sebastian (1-1/2 years) is fitting in so well with our family. He is housebroke, and doing great, mostly, except for the fact that he is used to having a fenced in yard and running around doing his potty business (poo) where he wants to. Our yard isn't fenced in and he has to walk on a leash) I take him outside often, and we stay out for a long time walking everywhere, letting him take the lead so he can find the perfect spot, but he just won't go. He has been going poo only about every 1-1/2 to 2 days, and I can tell he has to GO!!! He whines and whimpers for me to take him out, but then just can't do his business. He has had about 2 accidents in the house, from just waiting too long. I am worried this might have a negative effect on his health. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice. |
Hmmm. Can you take him for a walk say around the block? Sometimes Zander acts like he doesn't neeeed to go but I know he does, so I take him for a walk, we barely get to the corner (2 houses down) and he is going. The other thing I would suggest is put a pad inside the home, perhaps close to the door, for a just in case. I would also watch when he goes #2, tell him good boy poop, give him a treat, continue this so that you can tell him to go poop and in my furbabies case, they poop on command and pi too. Maybe it may work for you. Good luck. |
It just doesn't seem to matter how I long I walk him...he won't go. Not to be too graphic, but I can see the evidence peeking out :o I have only had him since Friday, and in that time he has pooped only 4 times (twice outside and two times inside). I can tell that he doesn't want to go inside that he tries really hard to let me know. I have kept him out for about 30 minutes at time to get him to use the bathroom, and he just won't go. Once he started to go, and I started to praise him, and it bothered his concentration I guess, because he got up and walked off, and never did poo. He doesn't seem to really know what puppy pads are for. I bought some of them just in case, but he isn't the least bit interested in them, and I actually don't want to get him started on them since he hasn't used them before due to fact I have a toddler (who likes to put things in his mouth:eek:) |
You just have to keep trying. When I first got Milo I live in the suburbs we visited my sister in the city where you can not go on the grass. Well let me tell you he held it for 2 days I was ready to take him to the Vet and he finally went. Keep him walking and try to establish a schedule so he know when he will be going out. He will get it in time. |

I've notice a couple key things here. You've only had him a few days, so it is going to take some time, he has to adjust to his new surroundings and ways of doing things. Just keep on doing what you are doing, take him out frequently, he will adjust. When you praise him, wait until he has finished and as soon as you see he has finished, then praise him and reward him if you are using treats as a training tool. It will get easier :thumbup::) |

I just realized I read your other thread and he is on antibiotics right. That right there can make him a little constipated. |
My Peek a Boo is a show dog reject and was trained not to poo or pee on lead. I changed over to a halter thingy and voila! |
