Agility Anyone have their dog trained in agility. And if so, how did you get started? Laya loves to run and jump. I was just curious about yorkies and agility. I think she would like it and it would help burn off some energy. |
Cash recently started an introductory course to agility. After another 4 weeks, we are changing trainers (I am not happy with this trainer) and then it is full-on agility. He is also starting flyball soon (as well as two more classes - one for obedience and one for tricks). I think he is going to love doing agility. The energy factor also helps :) Take a look at the videos of yorkies doing agility and flyball on youtube. It is amazing what these little guys can do.:D |
I'm so glad you brought up this topic. I too play to have Lacey trained in agility. Can anyone tell me what age to start training? Any ideas on things we can do early at home just to help get ready? |
They have to be at least 14 months to limit injury to the joints. I would start clicker training as soon as 2 or 3 months though. June has an excellent recall and she does 'sit' (working on 'down' and 'shake') at 13 weeks. Don't vilify me, I got her at 8 weeks since breeders in SA don't keep them over 8 weeks. Anyway, I would definitely enroll the baby in class asap (June started at 12 weeks and she is doing very well). Good luck. |
Help with the teeter please We've been working with agility for about 3 months and can't seem to get the teeter. My little one just doesn't like the movement. She's an ace on the wobble board, but hates the teeter when it tilts. Our instructor suggested I force her with her collar, but that is not how I prefer to train. Any suggestions? |
