im going to cry! i luv my dog really but today i was close to tears. it all started a year ago when i got my puppy. i began by training her to go on pads then introduced taking her outside. i would praise her anytime she would use a pad or used the great outdoors. well now she just pees on the tile and the rug next to the kitchen door. yes if there are 100 pads on the floor she just find that tiny spot the size of a quarter that is not covered by pad and goes on the tile. if she goes outside she will hold it and hold it until she comes back in and goes on tile or rug. if she is in her crate she will hold it and hold it. i just dont know what to do anymore. please help me. she was doing well for a while and now she just wont go on pads or outside. nomatter how long im out there with her, i even put her on a leash and beg her to go potty and she wont go. i put the rug she likes to go on outside and she wont go on it out there either. i planted a patch of grass for her to go on. please someone help me!!!what am i doing wrong!!:(:confused:i think ill go cry now..... |
I'm sorry. Potty training is really tough! We've been there. By the way, your dog is adorable. This is what I did with Thor: I put him in his crate and took him out every hour and put him on his pee pad. If he didn't go after five minutes, I put him back in his crate. He held it for forty hours the first time, and some ridiculous number the next time, but after that, it really clicked and he's improved steadily from there. By the way, I did go to sleep during those forty hours, so part of the time was overnight. Basically, I would set up a situation where she cannot fail. If you want her to go outside, you can use the above method, but carry her outside to potty. I would not let her paws touch the floor, because she will probably seize the opportunity to pee. I don't know why she is so determined to go on your floors, but it sounds like you need to restrict her movement until she understands where she is supposed to go. Also, are you using an enzyme cleaner on her messes? If not, she probably smells where she has already gone, and her instincts tell her to return there. You can use this to your advantage. Next time she has an accident, blot her pee with a pee pad or something absorbant. Then, when you take her out, bring the pee pad (you can put it in a plastic baggy for storage), and have her sniff it. Smelling her pee should encourage her to go. Also, vigorous exercise usually opens the floodgates, so if all else fails, take her on a quick jog around the block and see if that loosens her up. Good luck! Please keep us posted. (Finally: keep treating her for good potties!) |
I just wanted to add, you can also use the standard crate training method, and keep her in the crate except for supervised times until you trust her to tell you she needs to visit her potty. Bottom line, many yorkies don't naturally "get" potty training, and you have to go through a boot camp period where they are either confined or you are watching them with both eyes. |
well i use natures miracle to clean up but i dont know maybe i need something stronger |
Nature's Miracle should work, as long as you let it set into the stain. Have you tried crate or xpen training? |
Clean that area really well .... and make sure you get the scent away Next cover it with something maybe a piece of rug so that the orientation is different for her While in this training phase make sure she doesnt have access to that area when you are not around and bring her out at least twice a day for LONG walks You want her to do two things .... mark outside where she smells other dogs and get exercise which will make her body need to eliminate faster |
Oh my gosh I am having flashbacks. Its going to be a LONG battle but you WILL get through it. When I first brought home Baci it was an impulse thing. *mistake #1* I didnt research the breen OR realize yorkies are one of the hardest breeds to potty train. But when I saw him I fell in love. It was a long battle.. luckily we have a big kitchen. So i gated him in there. Until this day when we are not home thats where he spends his time. Plenty of room to run around, his crate and toys are in there... and his wee wee pads In the beginning i put the pads where I wanted them. I could not for the life of me get him to use the pads. Everynight in tears cleaning my kitchen floor because I would have to work and not be able to watch his every move. It came down to having to take time off work and for one week straight i was EVERYWHERE he was. And constantly reinforcing good potty behavior. However... i did notice in this time that although he wasnt going on the pads.. he was going consistently in the same spot. Soooooo i moved the pads. And so far since that week and a half... all has been good. You REALLY need to be consistent. If you arent praising him EVERY time he does good, or fixing his wrongs... he wont get it. So stick with it... and keep in mind.. no matter what accidents happen. |
