Toby starts Behavior 101 Anyone out there doing a formal training class? I went to my first on Thursday and Toby comes with me this week. I'm a little nervous, but also excited. Most of the other dogs are big shepherds. I know in the end he will do well. We've been working on the homework (name recognition and eye contact.) I didn't realize how many nick names we have for him. He's 2, so he already does alot, but we're now learning it the "right" way. Just wondering if anyone has any stories to share. :) |
i just started my class sunday and there were 3 others dogs and they were all medium sized but there was this terrior mix that was pretty big and he like was trying to step on molly lol. it was pretty cute. molly was being cautious though. he also would like snap at her then she would go up to him and he would start licking her. she like others dogs and treats so she should do well...hopefully. hope your training goes well too! |
How old is Molly? What are you working on? |
We just had our 3rd week of training with my 1 year old boy Brady! We started the class because he was getting aggressive toward Winnie, what a difference just 1 class made! I am so happy we decided to enroll him! We decided to use clicker training and our little boy is just so smart! he is learning to shake and give high fives right now! I couldn't be more proud of him! |
molly will be 10 months on may 7th and i have sort of taught her sit and down (she knows down better) but she only does it with a treat lol. this first class was sort of a intro and i think next class we will be working on sit/stay. |
Roxy went to puppy classes. She gets into such an excited wiggly state of mind there is no focusing her on anything. I had to do most of the teaching at home, and wasn't able to impress the instructor in class. She just loves everyone sooo much all I could get were wiggles. I'm teaching her things at home, but want to do more socializing before I start on dog obedience. Classes are fun, and something you'll never regret... as long as you do the training everyday at home. Nothing nicer than a well behaved dog. |
No puppy class for Jackson, although I think it'd be fun to take him! I decided to save myself some money and do some of the training on my own. I didn't think it was ever possible for ME to train a dog to anything other than sit... but I have now taught him how to sit, stay, come, down, shake, highfive, roll over, bang bang (play dead!) all on my own! (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...ng-tricks.html) I was so proud of my little guy (and myself LOL.) I have never trained a dog before, ever. But it's highly possible! I'm really enjoying the whole training process. It really makes for better communication with your dog. And it makes all your guests and friends laugh! I would love to take him to a class though eventually just to have fun with the other dogs and socialize etc. |
Pasquale and I start his obedience class on Saturday morning. He's 10 months. I'm a little scared cause i swear he has ADD. AND he gets really excited when he see's other dogs..that he starts drooling. He already knows sit and wait....as long as another dog or a kid doesnt go by...then its "WHAT DID YOU SAY MOMMY??Weeeeeeee lets go play!!" |
Rudy just finished his Puppy Class last month. He spent the eight weeks of class lying on a towel, ignoring everything (or so I thought). He would do the walks on the leash very well, but as soon as we went back into the room, he just laid down and pouted. He might sit if he felt like it at class, but knew both the sit and down command perfectly at home. I almost didn't go to the final class as I thought it would be a waste of time. I changed my mind though, and we went for the final exam. This time we were in the room alone with the trainer. Rudy did his sit/stay and down/stay perfectly. We then did the come when called, not only did he come, but sat down on his own. Then he walked around and left all the toys on the floor on the Leave It command. I swear I was giddy and beaming with pride. Just as we entered back into the classroom, the trainer threw a handful of liver treats right in front of Rudy...of course, he went for them...until he heard the "Leave it" command...to my surprise, he walked right over them not giving them a second look. Both the trainer and I went "Yes!!!" at the same time. My little guy learned a lot in that class, and we are looking forward to enrolling in another class in the fall :) |
I am starting a puppy training class with Brandi on Tuesday. I can't wait. I want her to do agility classes eventually because she is a natural at it. She can jump up into my arms from the floor! So, basic obedience is first, and the agility classes come in about 8 weeks or so. She is 18 months old right now. |
I was hoping to get to the agility level with Toby. When I first got him I thought Therapy Dog. Then I thought Dog who needs therapy! He's coming along though. :aimeeyorkI am really excited about the socialization end of things. He growls at other dogs when we are in the car, and I am looking forward to being around the knowledgable trainers. It should be fun. |
