Exercise pen advice I bought a little kennel for my puppy I will be getting soon, but I was wondering what I will do with her when I need to go somewhere without her for a little bit.... I was thinking about getting an exercise pen because I dont want to keep her in the tiny kennel for very long. Does anyone use a pen like this? Also, if I got one should I get one without a bottom and keep it outside so she can potty? Or should I get one with a floor in it and leave newspaper or a puppy pad in a little corner of it for her to potty on? Will this slow down the potty training progress since I will be letting her go potty in two different places- the newspaper or pads AND the grass (which I plan to use as much as possible.) ??????? |
1 Attachment(s) here is picture of hour pen. Each panel is 2 ft tall and 2 ft wide. I made it a little bigger by actually attaching it to his crate. It saved me a lot of anxiety because if I got tied up at work and didn't make it home on time, he could still use his potty. I wouldn't leave it outside unless you are out there with him. The do have a cover for some of them. It could get too hot or cold or large birds could prey on him, not saying they will but could be a possbility. Hope this helps. Good luck. |
I used the same set up for KiKi when she was little...the x-pen gives the puppy everything it needs and confines the puppy for safety...this will give you peace of mind... |
Same set up here too! Only I added a piece vinyl (found at Home Depot) to the bottom just in case of potty accidents.... |
I have used the same pen with Nolee when he was a puppy! It is best to keep them confined in a small area with they are going to be alone! Good Luck! |
I have been looking for a pen to buy CC. The only one I have found is at Petco, and they are super expensive. Also, I tried to use a standard wooden baby gate to block the doorway into the living room, allowing her to have the bathroom and hallway. She crawled over it! How tall should the panels be? And where can I find one at a reasonable price?! I think she has bad separation anxiety, she barks so loud when I leave, she hates to be away from me, she follows me everywhere I go when we are home. |

I tried the same x-pen set up as Hot Rods mom. Gunnar escaped 3 times! This was when he was just 4 months old too! We stated calling Houdini. A friend at work sold me a large wire cage and I set it up with cloth pee pad, food and water. He is never in it too long, and he can't escape! Donna |
oh, I forgot to mention that I got the x-pen thru Wal-mart. ordered it online and had is sent to my store location (free). The pen was about $55.00, much cheaper than the pet stores. |
Thanks for the info.! I am going on walmart.com now! Maybe she won't be able to escape! LOL! |
