Female alfa Hello to every one this is my first time in the community and we need advise for a behavior problem of a young female alfa (1.5 years) that gets in a fight with the others females. We have three females: Trudy (3 years), Tabata (13 years) and the derlic Trixi ( 1.5 years); plus we also have two males: Tato (12 years) and Oso (6 month). Every one gets along prety well to one another but Trixi bites hard the other females in any chance she gets. We have to keep her apart but dont want to rise her like that. Wish any tranning tip to solve this agressive behavior. Pardon my english as I am writing from Venezuela. |
BUMP! I'm having the same problem with Sophie. We got her about a month ago & she came into the house kicking butt on Keegan. I thought it was because he is bigger & intimidated her. The finally started playing but at least once a day she will just open a can of whoopass on him for no apparent reason. He is becoming timid & THAT is not my Keegan. PLEASE HELP! |
Hello, I trying now the roll over alpha tecnic. We put belly up and retain in that position until she cools down every time she attacks the other. We know that the yorkies are fighthers but we didn't have one so aggresived. Also this is strange as Trixi came home with three month only and until now she and Trudy always play together with no hard biting. |
I tried thr rollover technique but Sophie is so strong & determined that I can not get her on her back. Geez...she only weighs 8 pounds! |
I have an alpha female also.. she likes to show who is boss.. and I let her know I am the boss.. with my voice and she knows it when I say her name with a certain voice.. anne |

My solution I only have 2 a male and a female. Hobson and Ella. They play all the time, but when the going gets too rough, I have a large metal can (like the ones popcorn come in only smaller) and I have a metal slotted spoon and I hit it sharply. They both come to a dead stop every time. They are 6 months and 7 1/2 months old respectively. Beverly :animal36:animal36 |
Thanks for your help. We will use the loud can to see how it works. When these girls do grab to each other they do it very hard. My husband was bitten on Sunday and yesterday I was in my thumb and still hurts a lot. Trixie got a bite on the lip I hope it serves for her to think it twice before fighting again. |

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but the way I've been taught to stop dog fights is to grab and lift the back haunches - the dog can fight if it's doing a hand stand. |
Sadly, I have experience with this. It is called Bitch Aggression. For us, our older female became aggressive towards a younger female when the younger one became sexually mature. They had been friends up until that point. The older female started "guarding" the resources (our little male), and gradually the attacks became more frequent and more violent so that the dogs had to be kept apart. I re-homed the younger dog, and thought the problem was solved. However, as soon as another female puppy that we had became mature, the older female started attacking her also. After several consultations with trainers and our vet, I rehomed our older female. She is now in a home that has no other pets, and is doing quite well. I've been told that once this behavior starts it is almost impossible to ever trust the two females together again. I wish you much luck with your puppies. |
Yesterday I spoke with a veterinarian about the problem of aggression among females that were previously well together and he said that it is due to both were in heat recently, something related to hormones that affect their behavior. He recommended the use valerian to reduce anxiety. Katelin as you posted; he also said that we should rehome the agressive one. Something we don't want to do as one gets very found with these little monsters. We started with one and now have five. But if this what it takes to solve the problem. |
Trixie, rehoming my older female still makes me cry. It was so very very hard to do. But, for us, it was the only answer. I wish you luck in making your decision. |
