Cleaned Carpets
 
Since I have Laci she has had very little accidents and normally goes right to her pee pads, well, I got my rugs professionally cleaned and she seems to be peeing everywhere, not like a bladder infection just like she lost her scent or something... She has used the same area since I have had her 6 weeks so even if she lost her pee pad scent wouldnt she remember.. ??? Its like all of a sudden she forgot where to pee... she was just at the vets so she is not sick!! I just wonder if it has something to do with having my carpets cleaned????

Unfortunately it probably does ....
Dogs go by scent and she had probably marked a few places where she wanted
and she felt fine with that
When you cleaned the rugs that wiped the slate clean ... so to speak
Now she feels the need to mark up different places all over again

Any new spots should be cleaned with an enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle. Regular rug cleaners don't get out the protein left in urine, and if any protein is left a dog is compelled to go there again. The very act of wetting the rugs made the protein easier for her to smell, odors are transmitted much faster in moist environments rather than dry environments. If you have a "black light" you can see any urine spots, and they will show up a florescent white, yet be invisible to the naked eye. So that's why it's important to use an enzyme cleaner, as it contains special enzymes that actually eat the protein in urine. Once the protein is gone she won't feel "compelled' to pee on the spot. You can buy black lights at Petsmart, and some enzyme cleaners actually come with a black light for those hard to find urine spots. A stray cat came into our house once, and the black light was a life saver, the odor the cat left was strong, but I had no idea where exactly it was coming from. Once I found it, I soaked it with Nature's Miracle several times, and the odor went away.

This has happened to me also. Ittybit hasn't pottied in the wrong spot in 2 years....until the day after i had my carpet cleaned. :-( but after a few days she figured out where to go again.

My story
 
I just cleaned my carpets on Sunday. My two haven't had any accidents yet, but they are rubbing theirselves all over the place. They are making sure they smell like the environment. Cute to watch. But tonight they are getting a bath! Hobson is 6 months and Ella is 7 1/2 months. Right now I take them outside every 1 1/2 hours.

I live in Canada and was just wondering where you get this Nature's Miracle. I've been using Pet Power which is an orange concentrated soloution that you dilute. It is supposed to work on urine stains. I'm just wonderign if the Nature's Miracle would be better. :rolleyes:

I get it at Pet Smart, I've used all the different enzyme cleaners, and they all get the protein smell out, so that he doesn't return to the spot, but Nature's Miracle, is the only one I've found that doesn't leave a line of demarcation. You know the bigger circle around the pee spot. After I spray and blot, I spray again a cover with a towel,, and allow to dry naturally. When I pick up the towel, there is no evidence of any mark. With other cleaners there is a faint larger circle around the whole thing. The main thing is to use a cleaner that says it has enzymes in it, as these are special bacteria that actually eat the protein. If you are cleaning a hard surface, this isn't as important, but for porous surfaces, enzyme cleaners work best.

What about the carpet cleaner that says it has pet odor remover. Also I have moved into a new house and my yorkie poo seems to have found a few spots to pee. I have a portable steam cleaner that I use with pet odor carpet cleaner in it but she still tries to go in a different spot everytime.

I use a carpet cleaner with my machine that says that, but I think it contains odor "neutralizers" rather than odor destroyers. If used properly, the enzyme cleaners get rid of all protein, and this means that there is no protein for the dog to smell, the odor neutralizers get rid of smells to the "human" nose, and since a dog's nose is 1000 times more efficient, they can still smell the odors.

Well I have the answer, I called the cleaning company, they use amonia to clean thier tools and hose's after each day work, after speaking to a person at petsmart they told me amonia is an attractant and that it was probally in the water they used to clean the carpets and they have heard this story many many times... he told me to get 2 spray bottles of natures miracle and put a fine mist over every area that was steam cleaned and let it dry and do it again... so far so good... but I thought that was a big FYI for everyone... so basicly my house smelled like a litter box to her... :eek::eek:, she has NOT ever had an accident on my rugs prior to the rugs getting cleaned so it was the amonia in the cleaning products they used..
