In need of private trainer in the San Diego area A.S.A.P.!!
 
My Yorkie is going psycho! My family and I are getting frustrated with him. He's biteing and barking constantly. We give him nothing but attention. We can't even invite people over since we are afraid of Zoey biteing them. I have taken Zoey when he was a year old to two different obiedience classes and passed both of them with flying colors. He is now 3 years and 3 months old and psycho. This is very very difficult. So I think our only choice is to have a trainer come to our house and train him. He doesnt seem to act this way outside the house since it is outside his comfort zone. So I'm asking anybody in the San Diego area if they know of any GOOD dog trainers. Please help with anything. We are all desperate at this point. A feeling I never thought of having with our own pet. Pleaes E-mail me or IM me if I'm on. I need to do this quick. :confused: Samtls03@yahoo.com

I dont know about trainers in your area but though that you can check the Dog trainers association or the http://www.nadoi.org/. Good luck with your little guy.

kim is from san diego isn't she?? Try asking her..socalyorkylvr..she would probably know of someone.

Hi I am no expert, but ever since I got Toby I have done nothin but look things up on how to train him more efficiently and quicker. In fact I just received an email from this site I have been going to, telling me that EVERYTHING your yorkie does is to get your attention. Maybe you are giving her attention at the wrong times???? When she is bad or whatever??? I have been reading up and experts say that if your dog is doing something wrong, and you yell at her, you are still giving it the attention that she craves. Or you will yell at her and then once she stops, you will pet her head??? She doesn't care whether it is positive or negative from you as long as she is getting all the attention you say you are giving her. It is kinda strange but maybe you might be better off to pay her no attention at all when she wants to throw her little temper tantram......
Like I said I am no expert. I was just wanting to let you know what I had just learned!!! Hope things get better!!!

You should consult your vet about seeing a canine behaviorist. They are better schooled than trainers for dealing with canine behavioral problems. Just call your vet, explain that you have a problem with what looks like territorial agression, and need to consult a behaviorist. The behaviorist will then discuss the best way to approach your problem with you.

Ok, I admit it, I'm a Dog Whisperer junkie (Discovery Chanel). To bad you can't get dog behavioris Cesar Milan see you. I wonder how they pick dogs for the show? Maybe you can find it on the internet and put your name in. I know he's in California.

Hello,

I am a volunteer dog trainer at the San Diego Humane Society on Gaines St. As a first choice I would recommend Nan Arthur who was the senior dog trainer at the SDHS for years. She is now a private trainer. Her web site is www.wholedogtraining.com. The SDHS is also a very good facility and does private consultations for behavior issues just like what you are facing.

Whatever you do PLEASE beware of harsh training methodologies. Using punitive and harsh methods on a terrier WILL back fire on you. There are much more effective and positive methods available in the last 5 years or so.
