Help!! Marley runs out the door!!! How do I train Marley not to run out the door every time it is opened? |
I followed Cesar Milan's training on this with Harley as thats what he would ALWAYS do when he was a youngster. Then he thought it was great fun to have me chase him up and down the block. lol I started with a leash and every time we opened the door..I'd halt him...and say CCCCHHH! (the sound Cesar makes) and make him sit.stay. over and over and over some more...THEN I started with going through the door first (Cesar says never let them lead you through the door)...making him sit stay UNTIL I said ok..come. He's 5 yrs old and survived a few near misses in traffic...but never bolts for the door any more and waits at the threshold for me to say COME before he will go through the door. (Well unless its the mailman,,then theres no holds barred. LOL) Good luck. Be patient and don't forget for to praise when he does it right. |
run away Yorkie :animal-pa Good luck with trying to keep him from running out the door. The only way I have been able to stop mine is to actually hold him and not allow him to dart out. It's their game of cat and mouse that exites them. Riley loves to get out and have me running all around after him, he gets a head start then actually stops to look back at me then when I get close he takes off. This is when your blood pressure goes up and you have to remind yourself he is just playing his little game. Sooner or later I corner him and gently pick him up (all the time trying to refrain from tearing his little behind up) It takes alot of patience to raise one. The good out shines the bad, think of those times when he is laying quietly in your lap and he looks up to you with those cute little devilish eyes and then you will remember why you got him to begin with. |
