HELP can't sleep Hey I just got my new york. He's 8 weeks old. He sleeps fine around 12am till like 3am after that he wakes up and starts barking and playing. I'd been really tired, I don't know how to deal with it. Any help? I bought him a carrying crate. I throw him in there and he barks all night so I give in and let him out. |
Hey, Welcome to YT! The only way that I got my Yorkie to settle down at night was by letting her sleep with me. Probably not the advice that you're looking for ;) |
:welcome4: Welcome to Yorkie Talk!!! |
Hes been sleeping with me for like the past 2 nights, I really don't want him to he bites and scratches my face/hair. I also have a chihuahua, and they play all night the past 3 nights i had total 6hours of sleep. And I have work tomorrow afternoon I'm trying to get some sleep bad. I nap during the day, and this is not going well. |
Thanks for all the welcomes!, I'm a young male owner. People asked me if it was for my girlfriend. But no I'm single and love yorkie's, "Hehe". |
Awesome! REAL men own Yorkies :) In your case, I'd suggest you use some tough love tactics. Use a crate or ex-pen, set your Yorkie up in his area at night with everything he needs, and do NOT give in when he whines/barks etc. He will give up after he realizes the whining isn't working. It may take a couple of nights. |
I'm going to leave him downstairs in his crate tonight, and i'm going to go sleep. I'll let my little sis deal with him tonight. Going to warn her to don't give in =D |
Good night! |
I'm not sleeping yet, still waiting for more replies, I want to know what people think! |
argh my 8 week old puppy, won't sleep at night, he has soo much energy. He's up everynight at like 3am. I'm having lack of sleep lately. Anyone help? |
we put him in our room in a pack and play next to our bed, with a few toys, a pee pad and a few towels as a bed. He did bark/whine in the kitchen when we went to bed,but since we moved him to our room he has not made a peep all night, and never had an accident off his pee pad. I do correct him if he starts to whine or paw at the side of the playpen. |
Put him in a crate or pen in your room close by. There are many good threads on Crate training on Yorkie Talk. Do a search and hopefully you will get some good advice. I hope you get some sleep! |
You have ignore his cries! It is SO hard but if you don't want him sleeping w/ you, you've gotta do it! |
well I have a 8 week old puppy too. What I do is play with him for at least 2 hours before we go to bed. I keep him awake. I get on the floor and we play and play, by the time he crashes for the night (9:00), he sleeps until 5:30. I would try tuckering him out before bed. |
Yep unfortunatly you will probably have to wait it out.. and not give in. I would keep the crate by your bed at night. You probably wont sleep for a while, but thats one of things ya gotta through i guess when you get a pup. Hope it gets better soon!:) |
Thanks for all the replies, I ignored him last night, I got up this morning at 6:45 he was whining to death, Got him out. Took him out to potty. "He doesn't go potty, until he gets back in the house" I don't know why, hes such a bad boy. But then again, i threw him in bed with me, he whined and barked a bit till he knew i wasn't letting him out. SO he finally hop back in bed with me and fell asleep. I'll try putting his carrying crate in my room tonight. |
haha... i am so GLAD i am not alone... and...i thought it was only ME... he sleep perfect like seriously so perfect and then at night doesn't stop moving in the bed...cries if i put him in his room... i do not sleep... obvious as to why i am awake now... im frustrated because i'm a full time student and a part time employee and i never had to go through this with my pitbull... thanks for posting! :) |
I was fortunate, Bailey has always slept through the night - BUT a co-worker had this problem so she put the crate in bed with her at night - so the puppy knew she was right there at all times.... Not sure thats for you - but its a thought.... Good luck! |

Best of luck! |
Jasmine was brought home at 8 weeks and it was difficult to put her in her crate at night and not take her out when she began whining and then barking, however we didn't. At around 3 am, we took her out to potty and then back in her crate. She is 13 weeks old now and now sleeps all night, 10 pm until 5 am. We never let her out of her crate when she is whining or barking, that will only tell her that if she whines or barks then she will be let out. She caught on pretty quick. Good luck. |

hey its been a week now, since I had my pup. I just want to update everyone. Thanks for all the replies. I finally gave up on his carry crate. I just let him sleep with me in my bed now. He sleeps fine soo yeah. Screw it LOL. As long as I get my sleep. I do put him in there when he naps. Now I just have to make him go pee and poop outside. |

As for the peeing and pooping outside, we are all working on that! |
Sleepless not here 3 Attachment(s) Zipper is now 5 monts old. He sleeps next to my chin everynight. I think he likes the hear beat. He has never had an accident in bed and never gets up before me. My 17 year old isn't impressed on having to mover over but what the heck. It is when I puppy sit my dtrs. 2 yorkies that the fun starts for positioning on the bed. At least they don't cry all night and it is nice to feel loved. |As long as I take the dogs out every 2-3 hours we have no accidents but out of the four of them only the 17 years old asks to go out. So I guess I am the trainned one. It will be better when spring arrives as we once again have snow showers! |
