Barks when I stand up! My little guy can be quite the barker. Usually it has to do with a toy, treat or another dog. But one thing that drives me crazy is that he barks every time my husband or I stand up. Does anybody else have a Yorkie that does this? If so, how can it be stopped? I have seen those shows on Animal Planet and one suggestion is to stand up slowly, as not to excite the dog. Any suggestions would be GREAT. Thanks! |
I would be concerned that this indicates that he believes he is the boss. In that case he would bark at you guys to tell you to sit down. Does he have any other dominant behaviors? Or maybe he's just barky. I tried pennies in a can with Thor, and he stopped barking at the neighbors almost immediately. I wasn't even that good with the timing, and it didn't seem to scare him either. |
I am afraid that this might be the case. We have a problem with our 10-year-old Jack Russell thinking he is the head of the house. Fortunately Cooper is still young and we can (hopefully) stop this behavior. I guess it's back to puppy class! |
You need to be dominant and show him you're the boss. He's barking at you to tell you he WANTS you to sit back down with him. Be the alpha. It sounds ridiculous but if you've ever watched Dog Whisperer (and this worked for my dog) stand up tall, sometimes with your hands at your hips, and just make the "shh" sound - or any other sound you want, whether it be "Ehh" or something. I say "quiet" to Jackson and he simmers down. I also did the pennies in a can trick and shook it whenever he barked and said "quiet!" |
Pixie does that whenever I get up and put on my slippers. I think she just doesn't want me to leave. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, she always waits for me to go ahead of her and waits til the other dogs get their treats before eating hers. She definitately watches over the other dogs like a mother but show no sign of trying to be alpha with me. I really think she just doesn't want e to get up and go. Once I am up she is fine. A soon as I leave the house she goes up on my bed and drags my pajama's down the ramp in to the hall and lays on them until I return. My husband and dtr watch her do it everytime I leave. |
