Need Advice on training method !! Hey! I am getting my baby on March 29 and I want to be as prepared as I can be. I live in an apartment and I want to use puppy pads, if anybody can recommend a brand that would be great. I also wanted to know if anybody thinks it is a good idea to start putting the puppy pad's infront of the door that leads to the balcony and slowly move the puppy pad onto the balcony so Romo can go potty outside? Or if I should just stick to keeping the pee pads inside! I am new at this so ANY help/advice would help!! |

I would say it depends if you are on the first floor or not.Any higher than the first floor I would definately be keeping my baby away from the patio. As for pads,I live in an apartment and I use the washable pee pads. All you would need is two to start and just change every couple of days.Of course you would have to pick up the poop after every time, but it will save you lots of cash not having to buy the disposables. You can get them in cool designs too. I got mine from a YT member(little bit). They are reasonably priced and great quality. |
Welcome to YT! :welcome4: Congrats on your new furbaby! :) |

I agree about the concern about the puppy getting out or falling off the balcony. I am figuring you have that worked out with some sort of fool proof protection for that. Now, don't ask me about the bell thing! LOL I have only read that others have done that. You can post a question about that and get those that have trained dogs to ring a bell to help you. |
I forgot to mention that someone suggested Sam's Wholesale or Costco has the best prices for human bed pads that you can use for puppy pads. We found that to be true, and just purchased some at Sam's. They are bigger. so that might not work for you. |
Thanks for your replies !!! I am on the 4th floor but there is no hole/gap from the floor to where the balcony begins if that makes any sense ! I think I am going to do it inside anyways though. I've read a few times that when you have your puppy pee pad trained inside, it could make it difficult for them to know they can go potty outside when you are taking them for a walk. Since I haven't gotten Romo yet, I am thinking when he is inside I will just say go potty, and then on a walk I will say the same thing and he will associate the word with going potty. Can anybody tell me their experience with pee pad training and "going potty" while on walks? Thanx ! |
