Pet Training Ok, I've taught Maximus, and for the most part he does it, sit, lay, and head down. I've been working on roll over and "Bang!". Well, actually, I started "Bang!" first, but thought I guess he needs to get roll over down pat. He does not like to roll over. I kind of nudge and roll him with my hand, but for the most part, uhn uhn, ain't happenin'. Do you think he will ever get it? Or is it a lost cause?!? He caught on to the first commands really fast. |
I would tell Chloe "roll over" a few times and motion with my hand and then just roll her over really fast and praise her alot with her toy. I did tnis over and over and it worked... I want to start working on bang bang when she fully masters the roll over.. |
According to my trick book, "roll over" is an intermediate-level trick. I've been having a lot of trouble training Thor with this one, so I did some research on the web. Apparently it can be tough for some dogs to learn. Thor is like your guy, he doesn't like to be rolled. I've started with treating him when he rolls over on his own, which he does when he's playing. You might want to google it, because there are a couple different methods. I know I'm not giving up. Thor is soooo cute when he High-Fives, I can't wait for him to get Bang. :) |
We starting working on Bang about a week ago... Nikko learns stuff FAST. So far, he has very effectively learned that when we say "bang" he should jump away so we can't touch him. Uggh. We haven't tried roll over yet... I haven't done much research on teaching any tricks beyond sit, stay, lay down, and shake. I suppose I should've done that before just diving in on Bang. OK, so now I'm going to go hit up google and see what the internets have to say ;). Lauren & Nikko |
I get ya on Thor not wanting to roll over. Chloe doesnt like to lay down or be forced to so we haven't tackeled that trick just yet and its not like I can coax her forward with a treat to lay down since she doesnt like them :/ |

I'm thinking I may have to teach roll over first and then continue on with bang bang. But what's working so FAR for Jackson for "Bang bang" is to do the gun motion and say bang bang and then sort of push him over and repeat the command and treat him. Once he's rolled over, he stays in that position at least. Hes not really a wiggle worm with that thank God. I taught him sit, stay, come, down, shake and high-five really fast. |
Bang! I taught Teddi how to play dead when I say "Bang!" using a treat. I had him lay down on his tummy, then with the treat in my hand, I guided my hand from the front of his face towards his side (belly) and up over above him (on his back). The point is that he will follow the treat with his nose/mouth and the movement will help him roll over without touching him at all. (Sorry, it's kinda hard to explain...) Then when he's in the proper position, I say "Bang!" and give him the treat! :woof: |
