Best way to stop them from barking when you leave?? I don't know If I am having the only problem my puppy is nearly 7months old and he barks and whines everytime I leave his side even for a bit..He will bark and bark if I ever close the door on him and go into another room or run downstairs he will stand at the stairs and bark..My question is how do I stop that do I just ingnore him and say stop? Is anyone else having the same problem? I am hoping when he gets older I can leave him home alone with out feeling bad and having him bark all day for me :( |
I though you were going to give me a solution. haha Well, we are in the same boat. Lily acts like the world is coming to an end when she doesn't get to go everwhere we do. |
My Lucky does the same thing, even when I go to get in the shower! All I do is say his name sternly a couple of times and he stops. But he still does it the next day! |
Hi JoeyK. You don't live too far from me! I don't really have this problem. Stewie just sulks and mopes around when he isn't allowed everywhere I am. I would try ignoring it for a while and maybe he'll get the idea that he isn't going to get your attention with barking. |
Yeah I live in Schaumburg, IL..felix my dog is such a baby sometimes I hope when he gets older he starts realizin that I am not going anywhere! |
Huey does this too and we live in a condo, so I don't like him doing this. When I get in the shower at 5:15, he is barking like he has been left for days. I don't want the neighbors to wake up. He also does this when I leave for work. I did have some releif though when I came home and talked to the neighbor down stairs and he said he could only hear him bark one time this week during the day. So maybe your dogs are not doing it when you are home, but only when you leave. I did buy the comfort zone comfort spray that I spray each time I am going to leave. I think he likes it and it calms him. Maybe this could help. |
This is when you use the kong. I have heard alot of people say they don't like it. But its not a toy. Its meant to amuse the dog. My girl loves yogurt. I found some low fat yogurt in rasberry. I fill it and freeze it. I give it to her when I leave. She will stay with that until it is gone. Therefore no barking. Just experiment with things to see what your dogs likes best. :) |
Kong idea is great, make sure there are some amusements to occupy him when you are gone. Keep arrivals and departures Very low key and casual. Take him out to pee and then give the treats and ignore him for a few minutes before you leave. A 'simple see you later' without fuss is best. When you get home Don't do a big greeting. Say hello. Take him out to pee and then ignore him again for a few minutes. After you been home for a few minutes have a cuddle/play time. Many times we project our separation anxiety to the dogs. Don't worry or feel guilt about leaving, they sleep most of the time you're not there. |
